Welcome to Season 2 of the Good Intent Good Impact podcast.  This podcast focuses on issues of racial equity in the United States and season two is dedicated to the discourse on Critical Race Theory (CRT).  Please note: I use the terms anti-racism education and CRT interchangeably throughout this podcast only because it’s what people understand as it relates to the unfolding public discourse. In this final episode of the season, we look at the durable and mutating aspect of the web of oppression and how it can be used to uphold white supremacy

As they say, if you don’t understand your history you are doomed to repeat it. To combat racial inequity and secure liberation we must be honest about our stories from the past and how they directly link our modern day lived experiences.

We all have social identities in which we have privilege and which we don’t. It’s important to understand what this means for ourselves and in relation to each other if we’re going to stop the oppression olympics and do the substantive work of ensuring racial liberation.

If we’re going to secure liberation for Black and Brown people, we’re going to have to be honest about how White culture and White supremacy show up in us. In this episode, we talk about how our cycles of socialization lead us to internalize oppressive ways of being and how the cycle of liberation can help us break those patterns.

What is normal? Who defines it? Who does it unintentionally marginalize? This week on Good Intent Good Impact, we talk about how white cultural norms are weaponized to keep BIPOC individuals from being their authentic selves, specifically in the workplace.

We live in a world where White norms are the standard and everyone else can either acquiesce or face the consequences. In this fourth episode, we discuss the hierarchical aspect of the web of oppression, how it places White people above people of color, and what we can do to combat it.

Race is a social construct that we use to label and stereotype people in our society. Equity demands that we recognize how these categories negatively impact marginalized people and uphold systems of White supremacy.

In part 2 of this 9 part series, we explore the pervasive aspect of the Web of Oppression. Racism is everywhere and for Black and Brown people we are constantly watching our backs and waiting for the other shoe to drop. Knowing that interpersonal and systemic racism can literally be the difference between life and death is a heavy burden to carry. If we’re going to dismantle white supremacy, we need to understand its pervasiveness and how it operates in our society.

In this first part of the nine part series, we focus on the restrictive aspect of the web of oppression and how it can keep people from valuable resources.
