The polyphagous shot hole borer beetle (PSHB) was noticed here in Cape Town in 2023, and we are now seeing the devastating impact it has had on certain species of trees. Lester Kiewit speaks to Mark Johnston, the media co ordinator for TreeKeepers Cape Town which is a citizen-based association committed to conserving our urban forests. They suggest we replace those trees with species which have shown to be resistant to the PSHB beetle, including a number of indigenous trees.
