Transport Risk and Accident Specialist Stan Bezuidenhout discusses with Lester Kiewit whether there’s a legal maximum age for driving in South Africa. While there’s no set age limit, Bezuidenhout argues that the real issue isn’t age but ability. He shares his concerns about the current license renewal process, calling it little more than an expensive card print, and explains that drivers should consider stopping when they no longer feel safe or confident - whether that’s due to struggling with speed limits, heavy traffic, or lane changes.

This month's #LesterInYourLounge brought us to Clovelly, broadcasting from the home of Traci Kwaai, where Lester Kiewit was joined by Shruti Nair, a Fish Hoek resident, small business owner, and close friend of Traci’s. Originally from India, she traces her love of water back to childhood traditions in her hometown’s stepwells. In recent years, she has embraced open-water swimming, training regularly and competing in races. She swims an average of 2 km unassisted and is preparing for the Robben Island crossing in May, taking on the Clifton Mile this weekend as part of her journey. As a person of colour living in a coastal city, Shruti is deeply passionate about reclaiming and embracing the ocean, challenging barriers, and inspiring others to do the same.

This month's #LesterInYourLounge took us to the heart of Clovelly, where we were welcomed into the home of Traci Kwaai. A sixth-generation fisher child from Kalk Bay, Traci is a passionate activist dedicated to preserving her community’s history and ensuring its future. She leads the Walk of Remembrance, a storytelling journey that brings to life the struggles and resilience of Kalk Bay’s fishing families, highlighting generations of marginalization. But her impact goes beyond the past - through her NGO, The Fisher Child Project, Traci is creating opportunities for children in her community to connect with the ocean through snorkelling and diving. She believes true custodianship of the ocean begins with access, ensuring the next generation has both the knowledge and the right to protect their heritage.
