Jaime was all over the place today. We started off hearing about cooking a ham--understandabe since Easter is  nearly upon us. Then we heard about growing kale for cows. He shared his chutney recipe. Finally we were quizzed on what BRT stands for in relation to a leg of lamb. Spoiler: It is "Boned, rolled and tied."

Jeff Manke had advice for us in case we happen upon a baby bird. It is spring, so that is not unlikely. If it is feathered and can perch on your finger, leave it alone. Its parent will take care of it. The story that a person's smell on a bird will cause its parent to shun it is pure fiction. If the bird is not yet feathered and able to perch, try to return it to it's nest, or a similar setting. If it is injured, in the area of Santa Cruz, California, take it to native animal rescue.  

We also learned that turkey vultures and albatross have terrific smelling acuity. The rest of the time we spoke of the  seven species of swans. Trumpeters are the largest fling birds in the U.S. They can have a ten-foot wingspan. If you wonder why swans honk, listen. It's prett simple.

Rachael Shelton told us about studying in the library, which for her includes a lot of reading. Her friend Christina is turning 40 and building a workshop. Rachael gets Bill's need to have just the right pens to use.

Dana Snyder joined us in the last half hour. She helps people organize, and taught us an acronym that helps. It is SPACE.

In the good news we heard about a village in Japan where they have invented a trading card game that features the old men of the village, and it is wildly popular with the local kids. We also heard about a cat that was lost for sixteen years before being reunited with its owner.

Charlie said it is time for tomatoes, and then taught us everything we need to know about growing them. Well, not everything, but a lot.

Alex and Rosemary had the same movie favorite picks this week. They were Warefare and The Uninvited.

Shaz Roth, of the Pajaro Chamber of Commerce, told us about the Business Expo this afternoon in the harvest building at the Santa Cruz County fairgrounds. We will be broadcasting live from there today.

Michael Gaither was with us in the studio. He did five songs for us.

Brian Burgundo is the development manager for economic development and housing for the city of Santa Cruz. He was pretty excited about the new library. It has been in the planning stages since 2014, and we're getting close to breaking ground now. The whole project should be finished in 2028.

In good news we heard of a girl named Georgia who petitioned a clothing maker, Sainsbury, to put pockets in girls' trousers. She got her schoolmates to do the same. Sainsbury did not respond, but the following year they released just for what Georgia had asked. Was she responsible?

We also heard about a man who had had an essential hand tremor for thirty years. With one ultrasound treatment, he was cured.

Lynn Robinson of Valley Churches United Missions let us know they are missing much of the money they used to get to buy food for hungry people. They are trying to make up the difference through their Bucks for Hunger program.

Assemblymember Gail Pellerin had lots to talk about.

Rachael Shelton was in for the absent Rosemary this day.

Dr. Pete described mares rejecting their newborn foals. It is not that uncommon. He has had to intervene to prevent a new mother horse from kicking and injuring or killing the baby. He also told us about very well-behaved animals, some even working as therapy animals for people. There is also a mini-horse he met in Sonoma who would only visit with a person if he got to share their beer.

Alex's pick of the week is the movie The Luckiest Man In America. It is the true story of a man who figured out how to beat the TV gameshow Press Your Luck. He also wants to see the documentary The Hermit of Treig.

Gary Shapiro taught us that the place to go when you have worn out your welcome here is France. 

Ginger Shulick Porcella is the new director of the Museum of Art and History. Her dogs Maya Papaya and Radio McGriddles have made lots of art. There will be an opportunity for local folks to have their own dogs make art, April 7 at the MAH, beginning at 9:00 and going to 1:00.
