We canvassed the members of the Unscripted Group on Facebook about what they would like us to do a podcast about.  The first comment was "Why religion/belief in God matters. Would be interested in your thoughts."  While neither Ana or I feel qualified to explain Why God Matters to the world in the larger sense, we certainly can discuss it on a personal level and so we did our best to squeeze all of that into a single show.

Crystal Ellis is the biological mother of our foster son Jesse (Kwamane).  She was born into the gang life and actively lived it until a couple years ago when she made the decision to choose a different path for herself and her son.  She has since turned her life around, left the gang life and all the people that did not propel her forward.  She earned her GED, and last month she graduated with honors earning her certification as a Phlebotomist and registered Medical Assistant.  We sit down and talk about where and what she came from, the turning point in her life, and the new world she lives in now and the challenges she faces each day that come from within.  This is a raw and poignant interview with a woman that has done what so few have and tells the story about what it took to do what she has done.

You cannot have a meaningful relationship with anyone without, at some point, having differences. If not resolved, those differences can tear loving and meaningful relationships apart. When our perspectives differ the natural reaction is to explain or defend our perspective and when both parties are intent on being understood, no one is understood and tensions rise.

Ana and I just signed the paperwork to adopt our foster daughters, Emma and Cady and we will have a court date to finalize it all very soon.  As foster parents we are not provided any family, birth or medical history or any information about what the girls have been through prior to and since coming into care.  As adoptive parents we were finally provided that very thick document a couple days ago and it was heart-breaking.  The girls are quite literally miracle babies.  Ana and I talk openly about it, as much as we are allowed, in this episode.
