Yesterday marked five years since cannabis was legalized in Canada. When the third anniversary of cannabis legalization was marked, Libby Giesbrecht was finishing her master’s degree at the University of Regina, delving into police check stops and technology and asking questions about how cannabis-impaired driving statistics had developed since Oct. 17, 2018. She joins Gormley to discuss the five-year anniversary and her research in light of the present growth of cannabis-impaired driving police are reporting today.

John takes a look at the 5 Year Anniversary of our Country legalizing marijuana and turns the phones to you. Has it worked? Are you less/more concerned?

A sentencing hearing for Brent Gabona in Rosthern, Sask. last Wednesday heard victim impact statements about the trauma Gabona has caused various families for the abuse suffered by people with disabilities Gabona was tasked with caring for. The hearing, during which the Crown called for a 15-year sentence for Gabona, brought Rick and Darryl Boguski back to Saskatchewan to share their own victim impact statement for the abuse Darryl suffered under Gabona’s care. The brothers join Gormley to share what happened in court.

The Saskatchewan government’s new “Parents’ Bill of Rights” has been introduced in the legislature. While many parents are pleased with the move that would ensure they remain informed of changes their children want to make to their gender and how they wish to be referred to, others still are in opposition, claiming the bill will put children in the LGBTQ+ community at risk. We go to the Reality Check phones and ask: Is the Saskatchewan government doing the right thing by introducing the parental consent bill?
