Bill C-7, which expands access to medically-assisted dying to those who are suffering but not approaching the end of their natural lives, is before the House of Commons this week before heading back to the Senate for a final vote. Saskatchewan Senator Denise Batters is raising objections to the bill, saying expanding access to assisted suicide to people suffering with mental illness would have dire consequences and places Canadians at risk of death when they still have hopes of a full recovery. Batters joins Gormley to discuss the bill and why she objects to the amendment.

The University of Saskatchewan team studying wastewater for early warnings of COVID-19 case rates is expanding the program to a number of First Nations and continuing their work in Saskatoon. Dr. John Giesy and his team had success with their predictions last year, and aim to expand the program to include COVID-19 variants, and he joins Gormley to share the latest, and explain why we haven't seen regular updates on their work in recent weeks.

The Provincial Government is still working to vaccinate seniors as quickly as possible, and passed the milestone this week of vaccinating more than 80% of long-term care residents. Premier Scott Moe also announced a big funding boost to VIDO InterVac at the University of Saskatchewan, committing $15M to further support vaccine development and production in our province. Moe joins Gormley to share the latest on Saskatchewan's vaccination efforts.

Today is a big day for space exploration, as NASA's Perseverance rover is scheduled to touch down on Mars. While the mission is American, a number of Canadians are involved, including Tim Haltigin with the Canadian Space Agency. Haltigin helped design the program to study samples once they're returned to Earth, and he joins Gormley to tell us why today's landing is such a major milestone in our exploration of the Red Planet.
