Andrew Ussher gives scriptural, helpful and practical teaching on what the Bible calls “the Lord’s Supper”. Alexander Lyttle (1912-1976) was the youngest of 13 children. Saved at 22, Mr Lyttle credits his praying mother and a godly Sunday School teacher with laying a foundation that God later used in his salvation. After his conversion, on 16th Jan 1934, Mr Lyttle was associated with the Baptist Church. After 12 years, he became a Baptist Pastor and for 8 years looked after three Baptist congregations in his homeland of Northern Ireland. However, as he read and studied his Bible, he discovered there was no such thing as a one-man ministry or a “settled ministry” in the New Testament. After 3 years of careful investigation, he became fully convinced that his position was untenable, and in 1954 he came into fellowship with the assembly meeting in Bushmills, being fully prepared to take up a secular job. However, immediately the Lord opened doors for him to continue preaching the gospel. For many years he partnered with Albert McShane and God blessed his labours. In this recording, given in 1964, he tells his story. (Reading: Isaiah 53:5)

In the first part of a series of videos on what the Bible says about future events for the human race, Eugene Higgins (New Jersey, USA) takes up the subject of “the 2 roads and the 2 destinies”. The Lord Jesus Christ revealed the fact that all of us are either on the broad road to hell or the narrow road to heaven. Which road are you on? When did you start on the narrow road? (Preached in Jackson, Michigan, USA). Here is a copy of Mr Higgins chart:

Tom McNeill (1934-2016) grew up hearing the gospel preached. One particular evangelist, Joe Stewart (1877-1946), spoke personally to Tom around 20 times about his soul, so much so that when Mr Stewart died Tom was relieved he was gone! As a lad, just into his teens, Tom was beginning to look forward to the day when he could “get rid of all the preaching, praying and singing” and go and enjoy the world. But God saved him on 14th December 1947. After being baptised and received into assembly fellowship, Tom McNeill became busily engaged in gospel work. In 1974 he gave up a well paid and successful career to go out full time preaching the gospel. God blessed his labours for many years in the salvation of souls. (This recording is part of a message given in Larne in 1996, and relates just the events of the year of Mr McNeill’s conversion).

Jim Flanigan (1931-2014) tells the story of how he came from an evangelical denomination into a scripturally gathered local assembly. As a member of his church growing up in Belfast, young Jim just accepted the denominational world around him as normal. He says “I had no idea that assemblies existed”. However, when he learnt the truth of gathering to the Lord’s name, Mr Flanigan says, “For me it was like second conversion”. In this message he outlines, under 4 headings, the life-changing truth that redirected his steps namely, the assembly’s simplicity, self sufficiency, spirituality, and sanctity. Reading: John 1:35-39 (Message preached in Ballymena in 2009)

Peter Scarsbrook preaches on Psalm 61 (see below) and follows the journey of the Psalmist from his “being overwhelmed” to “being preserved”. Much practical and wise teaching is extracted from this Psalm for the encouragement of the saint who is passing through difficult circumstances (Message preached at the Belfast Christmas conference 2009)

Albert Leckie (1920-1988) preaches on the topic of “speaking in tongues”. He asks what tongues were for. The Bible says they were a sign. In Acts 2, a sign of the resurrection and exaltation of Christ; in Acts 10, a sign of the pouring out of the Holy Spirit on the Gentiles; and in Acts 19 a sign of “accomplished redemption”. With these “sign purposes” completed, the sign is no longer required, so tongues in Acts should not be taken as normative for today. Even in 1 Corinthians, all that Paul says about tongues is meant to wean the Corinthians away from their use, not just from their misuse. Reading: Acts 2:1-4 (Message originally preached in Scotland)

Ronnie Johnston (1929-2007) tells the remarkable and touching story of his father’s and his own salvation. Ronnie’s Dad was saved through the hymn “Trust and obey”, a hymn he learnt from his children as they sang it on Sunday afternoon walks. But Ronnie didn’t get saved until he was 27. While his Dad used to break bread in Cregagh Street Gospel Hall, Ronnie was 6 streets away playing cards. Ronnie would ‘borrow’ money off his godly father but confessed, “I got the cigarettes, I got the dance…but no joy”. Leonard Mullan went to visit Ronnie and the Lord began to work. Listen to how the Lord saved Ronnie on 21st May 1956 in the Sorting Office in Strabane. Readings: Gen 1:1-5, Job 33:8-17, Heb 1:1-3. (Testimony given in Northern Ireland)
