Andrew Steele preaches the gospel from Philippians 2:5-11, and in particular the expression in v8 “the death of the cross”. The preaching of the cross, though foolishness to the world, is central to the gospel of the Bible and it is precious to those who know Christ as their Saviour. The cross showed the extent of man’s hatred; is the exhibition of God’s heart; and is the essence of the believer’s hope. Do you know the Christ of the cross? (Message preached at Larne Conference, 2018)

Tommy Thompson (1925-2010) came from Belfast, Northern Ireland, and was converted to Christ in his homeland. He was a godly, committed, warm-hearted gospel pioneer. He married Sadie Scott in 1945, and together they immigrated to South Africa. But in 1954, they heard the call to serve the Lord in the cold far off land of Alaska. For the next 50 years, they laboured and toiled through oft-times lonely years, but saw many souls saved and some assemblies established. The story of those years is told in the book Toil and Treasure in Alaska. A year before he died he stood to his feet in his home city of Belfast and gave a report of how the Lord had led him over 5 decades. This is a recording of that meeting. Reading: Ezra 10:4 (Photo above: Anchorage, Alaska)

Phil Coulson speaks on half a verse in John’s gospel (John 6:17b) – “It was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them”. Why does the Lord allow us to go through dark times? Why, when we can’t see the right way – when we feel lost – does He sometimes leave us alone and not come to us? Why do some believers who don’t seem very keen in spiritual matters seem to fare all right, while others who dedicate their whole lives to the Lord seem to go through such dark trials? Phil Coulson brings comforting and insightful Scripture truth to these hard questions in a message given at the Thanksgiving Conference in Vancouver in 2014 (Ignore the hiss on the recording – this is a message worth listening to.).

PART 3 of 6 – In the third part of a 6-part series on the fundamentals of the gospel, Mr Jim Allen speaks on the subject of the last judgment, when Christ will judge the wicked dead of all ages. Reading one of the Bible’s most solemn passages, Revelation 20:11-15, Mr Allen then speaks on the setting of the judgment, the scene of the judgment, the subjects of the judgment, the standards of the judgment, and the sentence of the judgment. A solemn setting forth of a much neglected subjected in ministry. (Message preached in Scotland in 1990)

Jonathan Procopio preaches on a number of the “shouts” of the Lord Jesus. “If any man thirst, let him come unto me and drink”…”Lazarus come forth”…”It is finished.” But there’s going to be a “last shout”, the shout the world won’t hear. A stirring message, focussing on the coming of the Lord. Reading: 1 Cor 15:51-58, 1 Thess 4:12-17 (Message preached at “The Island Conference”, Prince Edward Island, Canada, 2015)

Jack Gamble (1925-1994) from Glasgow, Scotland, was saved at 14, and then baptised and received into the assembly that met in Plantation Street (later Harley Street) in the Ibrox area of the city. He spent his whole working life at Rolls Royce, but ploughed his energies and time into the local assembly, and the study and preaching of the Word. Much loved and widely used, Jack Gamble was a powerful preacher who spoke with authority and zeal. He’s pictured to the right, along with Tom Bentley, in 1986. In this message he takes up Paul’s words to Timothy and Titus and brings home numerous practical applications from the passages under consideration. Readings: 1 Tim 4:12-13, Titus 1:1-5a, 2:7-14, 3:3-7 (Message preached in Kilmarnock, Scotland)

PART 2 of 6 – In the second part of a 6-part series on the fundamentals of the gospel, Mr Jim Allen speaks on the essential biblical topic of justification. Justification is not the ‘making’ of a person righteous: it is the ‘declaring’ of a person righteous. How can this be done? By grace. The condemned guilty sinner has nothing to plead; but God has set forth Christ as the propitiation for our sins. Every charge has been met and God’s righteousness has been satisfied. Now sinners can be declared righteous by faith, through His shed blood. Headings: the problem, the provision, the price, the principle, the power, and the prospect of justification. Readings: Rom 3:19-26, 4:25-5:1, 6:6-7, 8:28-30 (Message preached in Scotland in 1990)

PART 4 of 5 – In Part 4, Norman Crawford speaks on numerous subjects surrounding the first man Adam, and also the age of the earth. Adam was the first man; there was no race of men, nor was there death, before him. The fossilized remains of humans around the globe, among which so-called ‘Neanderthals’ are to be included, were mostly buried during Noah’s flood. The earth was created a few thousand years ago as a mature creation by a God who patterned the 7-day week on the model of His creatorial week. Mr Crawford closes with a look at the mathematical impossibility of producing one protein, 100 amino acids long, by nothing but time + chance (Message given in North America in December 1998)
