The Ministry of Health, Wellness and Elderly Affairs has observed a significant increase in current heat levels across Saint Lucia. With rising temperatures and humidity, the extreme heat can become uncomfortable and pose serious health risks, particularly for vulnerable groups such as infants, children, pregnant women, and the elderly. These individuals are more susceptible to heat-related illnesses, and the Ministry is urging the public to take necessary precautions to protect their health during this period of intense heat.
The current weather conditions increase the risk of dehydration, which can lead to symptoms such as dizziness, fainting spells, and heat stress. If proper precautions are not taken, heat stroke a life-threatening condition can occur, and in severe cases, this can result in death. The Ministry strongly advises the public to stay hydrated, limit exposure to the sun, and be mindful of the dangers of extreme heat, especially during outdoor activities.

Olympic champion Julien Alfred's historic achievements are hailed as a powerful testament to the adage, 'It takes a village to raise a child.' As Saint Lucia and the world continue to celebrate Alfred's remarkable accomplishments at the 2024 Summer Olympics, Equity, Social Justice, and Empowerment Minister Hon. Joachim Henry stresses the vital lesson the star athlete's success embodies—the collective effort and support of an entire community.
Minister Henry says Alfred's journey from the South Castries community of Ciceron to Olympic glory is a shining example of how unified support and commitment can propel a young talent to extraordinary heights. Surrounded by a network of individuals who recognized and nurtured her potential, Alfred's accomplishments are not solely her own but a reflection of the collective dedication of her village.
