The event was aimed at educating and empowering parents, especially new mothers, on the importance of breastfeeding.
Medical experts from various fields led informative sessions, providing valuable insights into the benefits of breastfeeding and best practices for both mother and child. The workshop offered parents the opportunity to engage with professionals, ensuring they gained a clear understanding of how to manage breastfeeding effectively. This workshop underscores the Ministry’s ongoing commitment to promoting maternal and child health throughout Saint Lucia.

The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs is urging the public to remain vigilant and to take necessary preventative measures in response to the current situation of dengue fever cases in Saint Lucia. As the island continues to experience the rainy season, a period typically associated with an increase in mosquito-borne diseases, it is crucial for residents to be proactive in protecting themselves and their communities from the spread of dengue fever.
Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne illness caused by the Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is naturally found in Saint Lucia. This seasonal disease is known to peak during periods of heavy rainfall, creating ideal breeding conditions for mosquitoes. The last significant outbreak of dengue fever in Saint Lucia occurred in 2020, with over 1,300 confirmed cases reported.
The Ministry of Equity, Social Justice, and Empowerment is preparing to launch the 2024-2025 cycle of the Community After-School Program (CASP).
Running from September 9, 2024, to March 31, 2025, the flagship initiative provides academic support, life skills training, and psychosocial care during the after-school hours.
The program will be implemented in 17 communities across the island, with activities ranging from arts and crafts to cooking and agriculture.

The Lightning Aquatics Swim Club has again shown its commitment to the community, handing over school supplies to the Ministry of Equity, Social Justice, and Empowerment’s Welfare Unit. This gesture marks the seventh year the club has partnered with the Ministry of Equity to support children's educational needs under the Welfare Unit's care.
The Ministry of Health, Wellness, and Elderly Affairs continues to play a pivotal role in coordinating and executing a comprehensive preparedness plan aimed at enhancing the country's ability to detect, manage, and respond to potential cases of Mpox. This ongoing effort underscores the importance of strengthened surveillance at all levels, ensuring that any cases entering Saint Lucia can be identified swiftly and managed effectively.
To achieve this, the Ministry has initiated a series of sensitization presentations and discussions across various sectors, including the medical fraternity, Saint Lucia Air and Sea Port Authority, the tourism industry, and the education sector. These sessions are designed to raise awareness and ensure that all relevant stakeholders are equipped with the knowledge and tools necessary to respond promptly to any potential threats.
