Formula 1’s race director Niels Wittich has left the sport with immediate effect, the FIA and Wittich himself announced on Tuesday. While the official statement suggested Wittich quit the job, reports have now found the German has actually been sacked by the FIA.

Pole sitter Lando Norris only finished sixth, all but ending his championship hopes.
