Meekness, gentleness is a God-ward quality of the heart first before it is a quality shown to people. The first four Beatitudes relate to God just as the first four of the Ten Commandments relate to God. First we must get into right relationship with God. Then we will be in a position to get in right relationship to men.

The Strength in Meekness “Are the Meek”

The best definition of this word “meek” would be “strength under control.” Meekness is the greatest strength a human can possess – to control the human spirit, anger, revenge, or passion for the glory of God and the good of the world.

The Saviour of Meekness

We may boldly say that the Beatitudes are a portrait of Christ. Nowhere is this more true than the “Blessedness of meekness.” Jesus even said, “Learn of Me; for I am meek and lowly of heart; and ye shall find rest unto your souls” (Matthew 11:29). Since Christ is “meek and lowly” we must strive to be meek and lowly also. Dr. John Phillips wrote accurately, “The Lord Jesus was meek, but no one would describe (Him) as weak. To be meek means to be gentle, patient, not given to anger or resentment.”
