The Ministry of Miracles: Defeating the Devil

The topic of Ministry of Miracles will be a series of lessons within the book entitled “The Miracles of Matthew.” I want us to see how Jesus began His ministry of miracles and so learn something of how we are to begin ours and what all that ministry involves. Remember, we are not just reading Matthew as a history book; we are studying the inspired Scripture which is profitable for doctrine and for instruction in righteousness that we may be thoroughly equipped for every good work. (2Timothy3:16-17)

Matthew was not just written for our information; it was written for our instruction. Jesus had trained His disciples and before He left the planet He commissioned them to do the same things He had done: go and make disciples, baptizing and teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you.” (Mt.28:19-20)  We do not study the Bible to just learn; we study it to live. Don’t just learn it, live it. In the closing words of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said if we want our house to withstand the storms of life we must hear and do what He says...

The Anointing with the Holy Spirit: How the Christians in the Bible Began their Ministry

We see how important to Jesus it was to begin His ministry with the baptism of the Holy Spirit in Matthew 3:16 where it says, “the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.”  That was His personal baptism with the Spirit, His anointing that enabled Him to do His miraculous ministry. As far as the inspired account goes in Matthew and the other three gospels, Jesus did no ministry, certainly no miraculous ministry before this event. This is what equipped Him with power to do what He did. The same had been true of His famous forefather David. Before David killed Goliath, wrote a psalm, or was Israel’s greatest king: “the Spirit of the Lord came upon David from that day forward.” (1Samuel 16:13)  Before Jesus healed anyone, or cast out a demon, or preached a sermon, trained disciples, or did anything in ministry, the Spirit of God came upon Him. We cannot possibly have the ministry of Jesus without this anointing of the Spirit.

In this study we will look at how important this anointing with the Spirit was to the followers of Jesus in the book of Acts. They got this from Jesus before He left. One of the places Jesus gave the Great Commission is in Luke 24:45-49 where Jesus said, “Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And you are witnesses of these things. Behold, I send the Promise of the Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endured with power from on high.” They had the message and they had the mission: Christ suffered and died, so go to all nations and preach repentance and removal of sins through His name. The Importance of Healing and Health

I know that healing and health are important because I know that everybody wants to be healthy. Everybody in the world wants to be healthy. You want to be healthy. You want your kids to be healthy. Nobody wants to be sick. If anybody just wants to be sick, their mind is sick. You do not want to be sick and neither do you want your kids to be sick. Nobody in the world wants to be sick. That makes healing and health important.

`We also know this because it is seen in this text. This woman had been sick 12 years and had spent a fortune going to doctors and she remained sick. Imagine her going to every doctor she could find, making an appointment, sitting in his waiting room, being examined, diagnosed, treated, hospitalized, taking more prescribed medicine. All to no avail. She’d spent all she had and was no better. But she was not going to give up. It’s that important. We are all like that. Miracle Mindset: The Image of God in the Gospel according to Matthew

We need a miracle mindset if we are going to bear the image of Christ. Our natural minds do not have this, but God has this, and we need His mind on everything. We need to have our minds renewed. We find God’s mind in His word. We pick up this miracle mindset from the Messiah in Matthew. We need to learn to think like God thinks, because we are His image.

Man was made to bear the image of the invisible God to the created universe, both visible and invisible. “Let us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them have dominion…” (Genesis 1:26)  We were created to be like God and to represent Him by ruling under His lordship. We show His image by exercising our dominion in doing His works. We bear His image by thinking like God, speaking the word of God, and doing the works of God. That is the clear undeniable teaching of Scripture. We were not made to be God but to be like God in our character and actions. “Be holy, for I am holy,” says the Lord (1Peter1:16)...

Healing in the Communion

Communion is one of only two church ordinances sanctioned by Christ. Both ordinances speak of the greatest thing God has ever or will ever do: the death, burial and resurrection of Christ. All of eternity begins with the Marriage Supper of the Lamb. Forever we will be in heaven worshiping the Lamb on the throne of the universe. His death and resurrection is the most important thing that will ever happen in time and the results of it will continue and be remembered forever.

The first ordinance (something Christ has “ordained”) is for new believers; it initiates us into the church. As the Spirit baptizes us into the body of Christ (1Cor.12:13), so man baptizes us in water to picture our participation in Christ’s death, burial and resurrection. We begin the Christian life by putting our life into the hands of the body of Christ. Someone puts us under the water and we depend on him to bring us back up. Someone buries us and raises us up. This is to picture that our spiritual life depends upon our relationship with the church. As the spiritual baptism immerses us into the universal spiritual body of Christ, so by water baptism we are immersed into the local physical body of Christ. 1 Timothy 2

God desires all men to be saved. That’s what it says in First Timothy 2:4. Does that mean all men are saved? No, it does not. If God desires it then why are people lost and some of them will die and go to hell forever?  Here’s the answer given to us in the same passage. “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.” All people aren’t saved because they have not come to the knowledge of (and believed) the truth. It’s our job to give them this knowledge. What knowledge? This knowledge: “For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (1Tim.2:3-7)... I have been in the hospital three times within the last two months. During my second visit I began to drink divine water out of a firehose. God was giving me messages faster than I could comprehend at the time. But I had the pen of a ready writer. I have spent my time since then preaching that word, under the theme of “The Image of God in Man.” I hope you have read or listened to them because they are lifechanging. To reread and relisten to them would be time well spent. A lot went into those messages.

My third time in the hospital God turned on the firehose again. Welcome to chapter two of what God has shared with me from His word in recent times.
