Many things in life get us down, get us frustrated, get us anxious or even depressed. BUT take this life advice: Even though this is the case, and we cannot figure out EVERY individual scene of life, we are designed to thoroughly ENJOY our lives as we remain in fellowship with the Lord. Again, we are NOT designed to enjoy life apart from fellowship with the Lord, but we can enjoy life to the fullest when we are in fellowship with Him, seeing life (and every individual event) through His eyes.

In today’s message, we see that God has “set up” man in order to fully enjoy life under the sun. Man needs simply to buy in to God’s ingredients to make this happen: (1) Taking divine viewpoint, and (2) Walking in the fear of the Lord. This involves trusting the Lord in all areas, and not coming up with our own self-defensive schemes. One such area that people come up with their own self-defensive and self-reliant schemes is when they disagree with or oppose civil government. Solomon will tell us that this approach to life under the sun is not reflective of a wise man, but rather indicative of one walking the path of folly and foolishness.

Solomon is never afraid to give us the truth in a real and raw way. He does not hold back, and is not afraid, it seems, of being brutally honest to the point of shocking people. As we conclude chapter 7 of the book of Ecclesiastes from the old testament, Solomon reminds us of his credentials and methodology of investigation, and then provides us with the conclusions of his investigation. It is simply this: wisdom is NOT a bullet proof vest for life, but folly is a bullet magnet. Wisdom has limits, but folly never works and thus divine wisdom, obtained via the fear of the Lord, is to be preferred.

Is it good to purse “GOOD” things (i.e., God, wisdom, good character, righteousness)? Yes, of course! However, does this pursuit ALONE guarantee success in life “under the sun?” Does this pursuit ALONE guarantee insulation from life’s trials and difficult circumstances? According to Solomon in the book of Ecclesiastes, and according to much of our human experience, we can say No, it does not! Many people are deceived by this thinking – if I live right, try to do right, then things will always work out for my favor. Many think God is obligated to clear our path for us if we live life this way. This type of thinking can lead to great frustration in our lives. There is something we need to grasp (verse 18) in our passage this morning…

One of the difficult things about life “under the sun” is that things are not always as they appear. Ecclesiastes 6:12 posed a question – “For who knows what is good for man in life…?” This morning, we will see that wisdom is one of those GOOD things for us in life. Wisdom is GOOD for lots of different reasons, but it is especially GOOD when things do not go the way we think it should. To have a divine perspective on the “crooked things” in life is truly a blessing of wisdom and is one of many reasons why wisdom is GOOD!

This morning, we will continue to consider how God’s perspective on life and what is truly GOOD is different than ours. As with any divine truth, His way is to be preferred, even if on the surface it seems to be the very opposite to us. Understanding the value of all the individual scenes of life requires God’s perspective.

Whereas Chapter 6 showed us that success is NOT necessarily always GOOD, Chapter 7 is going to show us that affliction and adversity are NOT necessarily always EVIL or BAD. Divine perspective reminds us that God is always working things together for our good, even when it may not seem that way.

Hollywood is missing out on story lines that would make them millions! “This Should Be A Movie” is a short biblical narrative series, grabbing familiar Old Testament Sunday School stories and re-visiting them through older eyes. This morning we will consider the story of Jehoshaphat and his overwhelming situation. This story is an incredible story of a leader of Judah, leading His people to trust the Lord and to expend ALL of their mental energy in trusting Him rather than relying upon their own developed strategies for protection. The battle was NOT theirs, but God’s and God came through and delivered fully and completely!
