    It's fall y'all! And with it comes an abundant harvest of apples, pears, peaches... each reflecting the grace and goodness of their Creator. It also reminds us of the result of abiding "With God."

    Jesus said if we abide in Him, we will bring forth much fruit. Paul calls it the "fruit of the Spirit," and lists nine attributes which grow in and through us as we submit to the Spirit of God.
    This, my friends, is our focus for the next nine weeks. We will sink our teeth into the sweet substance of these nine fruit, beginning with TRUE LOVE.

    There are great promises given to those who wait on the Lord. The visionary Nehemiah said, "The joy of the Lord is your strength." The psalmist David said, "Wait on the Lord, and He shall strengthen your heart." He went on to say, "In Thy presence is fulness of joy..."

    But nothing compares to the act of betrayal against the precious Lamb of God by Judas Iscariot. His name is synonymous with everything dark and heinous.


    The most terrifying thing is he had a choice. His story warns us of the potential in each of us to trade everything pure and precious for a fistful of coins. And yet HIs grace and love are still reaching.

  • Thaddaeus the Courageous

    How would you like to be sandwiched between Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot? To make matters worse...you have the same name as the traitor. This could be why Judas (NOT Iscariot!) was nicknamed "Thaddaeus" which means (among other things) "heart of a young lion." It took a guy with a big, strong, yet tender heart to be in his position and fulfill his calling. Thad had one question-and it's still being asked by the nation of Israel today. Only difference is, Thad obeyed Jesus from the heart and he got THE ANSWER.

    Simon must have a been a muscled mass of passion and purpose. When it came to the Roman occupation, he echoed King David in saying, "I hate them with a perfect hatred."

    But then one day he heard the words, "Love your enemies..." It wasn't just the words, it was the authority by which they were spoken.
    The very One who said it found him and said, "Follow me." Simon the Zealot laid aside his dagger, and picked up a two-edged sword. He was forever changed.

    James. Not the brother of John, not the brother of Jesus...the other one. What do we know of him? Practically nothing. More is known of his family, his friends, and even Judas the traitor.

    James teaches us the quiet character qualities of those disciples who serve Jesus in obscurity. Though not highlighted in any story, he was just as much called to be with Jesus as any other apostle; and he will rule and reign on a throne no different than Peter the Leader's. We can learn much from James' quiet strength.
