The roller derby madness continues as Josh and Ora review Unholy Rollers, the Roger Corman-produced derbyxploitation tale of an unlikable woman treated poorly by the world. This one has all the classic Cormanisms – an attempt to latch onto trends, frequently topless female characters who are nonetheless more compellingly drawn than most other films of their era, and terrible, terrible fashion choices. With the Royal Rumble only a week away, Further Adieu decides to celebrate with wrestling related content. Or at least two thirds of the podcast does; mostly Ora cowers as Josh and Kyle recite the weirdest and grossest WWE storylines they can come up with. In between talking about Mark Henry’s hand baby and Vince McMahon’s public affair with Trish Stratus, we talk a little bit about the Flintstones/WWE crossover, which sounds way weirder and more interesting than it turns out being. Once again, it’s time for the TPWND gang to tackle the most dangerous game – man. Or rather, talking animals that seem more or less as intelligent as men. Because there seems to be some freaky Doctor Moreau shit going down in the DC Flintstones reboot comic, where we’re expected to accept slavery because it’s a tiny dinosaur. Of course, the GI Joe: Hearts and Minds graphic novel has less man-hunting and more explosions. New Year’s nostalgia continues with Josh, Ora, and Kyle talking about the 90’s “classic,” Empire Records. This is a film that is very well-remembered by old people, so of course we end up ruining it for everyone in between arguments about Rex Manning Day and Cobra-La.
