  • Street Medics, Atticus Garden and Duck Bardus
#GrassRoot_Ohio host #CarolynHarding with #AtticusGarden and #DuckBardus - Street Medics, the first responders that are there for You and Me, for anyone who may get hurt during a Street Protest.
Atticus Garden resides in Columbus, on the South side where he is serving his 2nd term as Area Commissioner, representing the wonderful, beautiful, and diverse neighborhood of Southern Orchards (District 2). Atticus was first introduced to Street Medics during his time at Standing Rock reservation in 2016, where he spent 2 months at the Oceti Sakowin Camp providing medical aid during the historic gathering of tribes, allies and people from all walks of life standing in solidarity to halt the Dakota Access Pipeline. Inspired by these events and people, Atticus has spent the past 4 years providing medical aid at protests, demonstrations, and community events all over the US- North Dakota, Los Angeles, D.C., New York City, and predominantly Columbus where he has supported over several hundred events.
Duck Bardus has spent many years in grassroots politics in Ohio. They received training in the winter of 2016 at Standing Rock and have volunteered to provide first aid at countless protests since, notably during the George Floyd protests in Columbus and in the Autonomous Zone at the George Floyd Memorial in Minneapolis. Duck also volunteers on the board of Frontline Wellness, an NGO that coordinates medical care for high-risk activists.

  • GrassRoot Ohio- #StopPebbleMine-OH/AK FisherWomen
Carolyn Harding with Pam Libby, Julia King and Lindsay Layland. Two are born and raised Ohioans, one Alaskan. Two migrate to Bristol Bay every June/July, one lives there year round. Two are my biological sisters, one is an activist organizer sister. All three are commercial salmon fishermen or women in the Bristol Bay, and all three stand to Stop Pebble Mine.
Pam Harding Libby was born and raised in Worthington, Ohio. She moved to Alaska in May, 1978 when she married Jim Libby, a life-long commercial salmon fisherman from Bristol Bay.
She’s spent the last 42 summers commercial salmon setnet fishing on Ekuk Beach in the Nushagak district of Bristol Bay.
Next year marks the 60th anniversary of the Libby family fishing together from mid June - mid July, harvesting 1,000s of pounds of salmon, even in the midst of this world-wide pandemic!
At 66, she considers herself a “bad ass fisher grandma”!
She’s grateful to be part of her 4 generation family fishing business and is optimistic that the fight will prevail!
Julia King grew up in Worthington, Ohio spending summers at Lake Erie. In 1983, after spending a year teaching in the South Pacific, she flew home through Alaska and worked on the Slime Line at a salmon processing plant in Dillingham where her sister spent her summers fishing. The next year she went back and crewed on a commercial salmon drift boat for the summer and has spent the last 30 years, minus a few, sett netting on the beach with Pam and family.
She received her Masters in Education from the Ohio State University and started teaching in Southern California, in Corona, where she continues to teach today. Fishing has been her summer job of passion.
Lindsay Layland is from Dillingham, Alaska. She is a life-long fisherman with a great respect for the waters, lands, and cultures of the Bristol Bay region. She is committed to community engagement and preparing and encouraging our future generations to lead empowered, sustainable, productive lives. She is the Deputy Director of the United Tribes of Bristol Bay.

  • Green New Deal Now Bandaner- Laurel Hobden, DaMarcusX
Carolyn Harding with Laurel Hobden and DaMarcus X, Artist/Designers of the Green New Deal Bandaner. A work of Art, Graphic Design, Activism on a Bandaner! Something you can wear as a headband, a scarf, on your backpack, your car, your dorm or house window, basically anywhere, with the clean message “Green New Deal Now”. It’s clear, earthy, attractive and when you look at it closely, you find all kinds of info how we can help save our planet and communities working for a Green New Deal.
All Green New Deal Now Bandaner profits will go to SunriseMovement.org and can be purchased at Bandander.com
Laurel Hobden has been concerned about the environment since her college days as an art student in the 1980s. A recurring theme in her work is the earth bleeding at man's hand. As a student she ran a Peace & Justice Anti-Nuclear Test group and has worked on campaigns for progressive & environmentally active candidates.
She started painting banners in 2013, and attended a climate rally in D.C.with her first banner which says "Demand Clean Energy for a Livable Future". Since then she has painted many banners to get the word out on various issues.
Deeply worried about the future, Laurel wanted to find a way to have as much impact as possible using her talents as an artist activist. That's how she came up with the idea for the Green New Deal bandaner. (ban-dan-er), a bandana that's a banner. A multi-use, portable & stylish educational poster to make your voice heard & to rally others to the cause. She is now selling her bandaners at the website bandaner.com & is donating all the profits to the Sunrise Movement which works to elect progressive candidates that support the Green New Deal.

  • Grass Root Ohio-HB6/Householder/Nuke $61mill Scam
GrassRoot Ohio host Carolyn Harding with Pat Marida and Lee Blackburn, fighting corrupt legislation to bail out failing nuclear and coal based power and fighting for renewable energy here in Ohio.
Pat Marida is the Chair of the Ohio Sierra Club Nuclear Free Committee. She works on nuclear issues nationwide with the Sierra Club and other groups.
In the 1980s, she worked on the Ohio Nuclear Weapons Freeze Campaign, and served as chair of the Central Ohio Sierra Club, when the Club took legal action against the City of Columbus for their sanitary sewer overflows, and won, forcing Columbus to fix the problems. She’s a retired pharmacist, and graduate of the Ohio State University.
Lee Blackburn’s activism began in high school, where his name appears in the Congressional Record for the first Earth Day. Having testified in both the Ohio House and Senate against HB 6, the nuclear bailout bill, he is currently preparing testimony for the Ohio Senate against HB 104, another badly written nuclear bill. Lee is a retired businessman who spent the better part of his career providing housing for low to moderate income individuals.

  • Front-line Mask Maker Sheros- D Kuhnline, AB McKensie
    GrassRoot Ohio radio/podcast - Fridays, 5pm EST, 94.1FM Columbus & streaming worldwide @ wgrn.org
Carolyn Harding w/ Dana Kuhnline, and Allison Beer McKenzie, Ohio Front-line Mask Maker Sheros. When COVID-19 hit Ohio in March, I followed Dana’s posts about making masks for front line workers. She shared info and links from Sew Masks 4 Cincy - patterns for seamstresses to make masks that work for workers. Where are we now with the resurgence of COVID cases and with school starting up soon?
Dana Kuhnline began sewing as a young child. Her quilts have won numerous prizes, including a blue ribbon for People's Choice at the Ohio State Fair. She is also busy as an environmental advocate and has worked as a non-profit consultant for over a decade. She enjoyed sewing as an escape from this frequently stressful work. She never thought her fun sewing hobby would be used to save lives. Since March, she has sewn over 600 masks for adults and is currently working to sew as many more for children as schools start up again. She is also planning a scrap quilt from all her leftover scraps from mask making.
Allison is an architect at SHP in Cincinnati by day and the Director of Sewing for Sew Masks 4 Cincy on evenings and weekends. Allison is responsible for working with the mask users to develop the patterns for sewists and answering questions about sewing from volunteers. Since the beginning of the pandemic, Allison has completed roughly 1000 masks for friends, family and donation. She saw the need and rose to the challenge.
