  • Episode 20 - Interview w/ Bubba B the MC

    Send us Fan Mail

In the Graventown studio today, I had the chance to talk with a high energy pal and hip-hop performer and actor who I met in the middle of a prairie field in Manitoba in 2016; Bubba B the MC. We will definitely need a part 2 because we could have talked for hours. Bubba wears many hats and performs musically under the name Bubba B the MC and always offers a positive rhyme-based message and has performed at various Boys and Girls Clubs and schools across Canada to affect positive change within younger generations.  His radical energy also got him a spot on CBC's Dragon's Den in 2015. Bubba is also an actor who goes by the name Adrian McLean and is in a new show on CBC Gem called "The Porter" (which is the first Afro-Caribbean written, directed and leading-acted show in Canadian history) and he also had a role in one of the biggest #1 films of 2021 called "Nobody" (starring Bob Odenkirk and Christopher Lloyd). Find more about Bubba at his many upcoming projects and tours on his website!

  • Episode 19 - Interview w/ Caroline Marie Brooks

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome back to the Graventown tree, acorns! Today on the show I was lucky and grateful to speak with Caroline Marie Brooks. Caroline Marie Brooks is a musical  storyteller, and her new record "Everything at the Same Time" (produced by Jim Bryson) is the first solo outing from ⅓ of the Canadian harmony trio Good Lovelies. Brooks walks the listener through a wall of stories, taking moments from her life down and carefully recounting the feeling of the sun and the wind in the trees from days past and present.  Over 11 tracks, Brooks leads a vivid journey through feelings familiar to our hearts. Gentle guitar work laying a backdrop for Brooks’ sweetly divine vocals, densely layered with wurlitzers and mandolins and steel guitars to evoke feelings of memories both lost and found. Lead single “Vitamin” evokes a sun-drenched nostalgia, albeit a nostalgia happening right in front of you, one that you can live in and hold onto. Even at the end of the record, with a cover of Roger Miller’s classic “Oo-De-Lally” (from Disney’s Robin Hood), Caroline Marie Brooks has crafted an album that feels wholly familiar and distinctly her own - an instant classic waiting to be discovered and have its stories told.  Catch up with Caroline and her upcoming tour dates on her website. It was a lovely conversation about music, life on the road, parenting and much more.

  • Episode 18 - Interview w/ Devin Cuddy

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome back pals. Today on the G-town pod, it was lovely to chat with someone who comes from a long line of lovely Canadian musical lineage: Devin Cuddy. Devin has been noted as a versatile music maker who does a lively interpretation of New Orleans ragtime and blues but in his very own way, and who also loves to get rockin' and ramblin' with some Country-Crunchy highway songs. His latest EP "Amy's Dream" is a daydreamy character-esque piano and vocal-driven story that pulls the listener into some stark lyricism and rich dynamics. Be on the lookout for his new full-length album coming out in the fall, and more tour dates on his Instagram Page.

And hey - Catch me live at Irene's and at the Dominion Tavern for two awesome shows this month! Not many tickets left for either, so grab em while ya can at the links below. You are loved. ❤️

  • Episode 16 - Interview w/ Christina Martin

    Send us Fan Mail

Welcome back, Graventowners. I hope you're feeling less burdened as we push on through the Pandy and make our way towards...something? Today on the podcast, I was blessed and thankful to talk with multi-ECMA and Nova Scotia Music Award winner Christina Martin. They say the mark of fine songwriting is when a song feels like an old favourite on the first listen. With once Floridian and Texan turned Canadian East-Coaster Christina Martin, you can find an album full of tracks that feel like time-treasured classics, and brand new singles that feel like the song you got married to. Sharp as a razor and shining like silver, her songs blend the relatable and personal, painting portraits of love, loss, tragedy and redemption to soul-stirring effect. Her music dances effortlessly through Pop, Rock, Folk and Americana traditions but stays deftly unchained by any one label, refusing to be pigeon-holed and unafraid to dip into stranger waters. We talked a lot about mental health, opening for Wilco, music, the perils of alcohol and substances, the therapeutic power of song and her latest video and song "Stay With Me'. • Episode 15 - Interview w/ Danny Michel

    Send us Fan Mail

Episode 15! Holy mother of pearl; who'd ever thunk it? Thank you for being a part of this fun, zany, welcoming little vibrant community called Graventown. As a very special guest for this monumental episode, I was very lucky to connect with Danny Michel. The only good thing about not shopping in record stores anymore is you won’t have to figure out what genre to look for Danny under. If that were the case, you could try looking under, rock, pop, folk, world or even classical. His own self-described musical A.D.D. has kept his music fresh for decades. Maybe it has something to do with being born next to a candy factory, or his ambidextrous brain, but his thoughtful lyrics & charming performances have earned a devoted fan base, multiple nominations for Junos, The Polaris Prize, CBC’s "Heart Of Gold", and most recently winning the CFMA's "Producer of the year" and "Oliver Schroder Pushing the Boundaries" Awards. But Danny considers his career highlights to be the unique real life moments like performing for Jane Goodall’s 85th birthday party, touring with Stuart Mclean and working with charities close to his heart. We had a nice long chat about music, covid, spotify, genre-hopping, his own self made super intricate tyco car track in house called #danlandiagardensspeedway and recording songs on a Russian icebreaker with astronaut Chris Hadfield. Follow Danny's musical adventures at his website.  Follow me on SM under @gravencanada! I do a live music show every Thursday at 9 PM EST on Instagram Live called Graventown - come hang. • Episode 14 - Interview w/ 0Stella

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode, I had the chance to have a Graventown chat with Liz Pomeroy who is known musically as 0Stella. 0Stella [oh-Stella] is the solo project of Edmonton-based, Irish-Canadian artist Liz Pomeroy. Ruthlessly authentic alt-rock blends with traditional Irish fiddle and bodhrán to create catchy pop melodies with oft-politically charged lyrics drenched in irony and rebelliousness. Whether singing in her native Irish language or English, 0Stella is reminiscent of Garbage, Paramore, PJ Harvey and The Frames.  The zero-waste advocate (hence the zero in her name) will embark on a Canada-wide solo cycling album tour in March 2022 in support of her upcoming Freefall LP. The album is the first of two mini albums (Freefall and Skyward) that comprise one larger record, Pendulum State, to be released in 2023 on Dead Doll Records.  To find out more about her music and to support her cross-country cycle tour, go to https://0stella.com/home and donate! Send us Fan Mail

Happy mid-January, Graventowners. For some of us, this is the hardest time of year - when the promise of the new year and those magical drunken resolutions we make for ourselves hit the frozen ground of reality. In my life, and through my limited research of growth, the topic of self-love comes up again and again so I wanted to dive into that a bit. There's an even an easter egg cover song at the end! So enjoy - and may you not get tricked into the purges or diets or dating apps that will make you a new you; may the new you come only from you deciding to love yourself. May you find new and sustainable ways to love you. Stay tuned for more album info coming very soon! Happy January, pals. Onward we roll. I hope you're staying as safe and as warm as you can. On this episode, I was thankful to have some laughs and a lovely conversation with my friend and talented Torontonian singer-songwriter, actor and filmmaker Simeon Ross. Simeon Ross began theatre training at the age of fourteen, attending Winnipeg’s Prairie Theatre Exchange, which lead to various local television commercials. Simeon has starred  in several short films including Frequencies, The Loud Empty, The Dialogue, Last Call, Theatre Of Tragicheskiy, The Visitor, and Dead Wake. He has proven himself a tireless pop songwriter, having written and released more than 10 albums with various bands and solo projects including Red Autumn Fall, Charmer, Infighter, Shoot The Image, Uniter but he now totes a few EP's and a single currently under his own name Simeon Ross (Solo). Pals - welcome back to another Graventown gold nugget.
