Today Nurse Rosie talks with us about working in the medical profession and the profound effect death has on a person - whether you ascribe to the after life or not. I don't wanna give anything away, but this is a dark and special episode. It's full of hope and a great example of storytelling as catharsis.
Do you have any family stories? Family secrets? Secret Family? Well what if we dive on into all that right out the gate here. Sarah Wafford is a poet, seamstress, and excellent story teller. You can follow her on Instagram @adventuresarah42 (she's not on twitter) to get links to her poetry and patreon. And you're gonna wanna after you hear how funny and crafty she is with a story. Her grandfather was a WILD one, and died young in a scandalous way. You're gonna enjoy this.
Today we are joined by writer, director, and reluctant actor Wyatt Scott. Wyatt speaks with us about their upcoming play "Machine Yourself." The play is based on a short story ("The Girl Who Was Plugged In" by James Tiptree Jr.) that moved Scott to tears the first time they read it. We cover what it means to adapt a story into a play, how you take a story that is both so much your own but also literally someone else's and do both artists justice, and how one tells a story as a writer, playwright, director, and actor. This episode covers identity (non-binary and otherwise), sci-fi, the struggle to create, and even the financial industry. You can catch "Machine Yourself" April 2 at 2:00 and 5:00 pm online at wyattscott.org and in person at the Barber Shop Theater in Nashville, TN. All tickets are donation-based and proceeds go to Appalachian OUTreach, a non-profit that helps LGBTQ+ youth in East Tennessee.
Why is it different to tell someone else's story? Is it harder? Easier? We get into tryin to talk about someone else's sexuality as well as a brutal family story of Drew's.
Art, poop, and the art of pooping. We get into life without plumbing, the differences between craft and art, and when conmen transcend into artistry.
WE ARE BACK BABYYYYYYY!!!!
Well, we have missed all you wonderful souls so in spite of our plans to retire under a waterfall, we are back on the pod. This episode is a special one, as we discuss some big changes for the Into The Abiscut brand as well as what is coming up this year for the church of the EFF. Love yall!
A very live and very late Q and A with DJ and Drew. Apologies on lateness (explanation on episode). This convo features Christmas traditions, poverty, butts and a recap of Drew's weekend in Nashville. Don't forget we got a livestream of Art Share tonight on Drew's YouTube. Pretty excited to show y'all the new project we've been working on with Papaw Karl.
Drew Drew Dollar$ and DJ DJ Lewis are live and answering questions from the Youtube. We have decided to make this a semi regular segment on the pod so keep your eyes peeled for info on future Q and As. Thanks to everyone for participating and having such insightful and funny thoughts. We get into art, prison, culture shock, and more talk about going number 2 than we planned.
