We continue with our exploration into the modern GOP. Before Fox News and Newsmax dominated conservative opinions, there was talk radio. It’s where people like Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, and Glen Beck got their start. Even Alex Jones started as a radio show.

In order for conservatives to achieve their desire to be able to spout off conservative talking points without being held to a standard of being challenged, they needed to change the rules. The “Fairness Doctrine” required anyone being attacked allowed equal time to defend themselves. Their man in power Ronald Reagan agreed with that position.

With all the actions Reagan took during his time in office, the removal of the “Fairness Doctrine” has impacts that we are still feeling today.

Welcome to the premiere episode of Great American Shit Show. This show is designed to tackle all the American things that make our country look like the shit show it truly is. We will examine modern issues and go back to show this isn’t coming out of nowhere.

The first episode is a small series about the “Modern GOP”. Many people can’t understand how the GOP turned so far to the right. However, it has been turning that way since 1964. This week, we will discuss the founding of the Modern GOP by a failed presidential candidate, Barry Goldwater. How his failed run worked well for Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump.

Before the series kicks off on January 8, 2024, we wanted to give you a slight sample of what is to come with out first season. The first few episodes will examine how the craziness of the Republican Party shouldn't have come as a surprise to anyone. They have been telegraphing it since the 1960s with their presidential nominee, Barry Goldwater. All the pieces in the first few episodes will explain something modern media can't: the history behind it. Donald trump and MAGA wasn't an abstract idea, it has been coming for sixty years.
