Today we start a new theme of the week. I'm not going to say the theme because I want the question in the title of this episode spark your curiosity a bit and make you listen to the show. I know it's a little longer than usual, but that's because the ingredient that I am discussing is so critical to your success that if you don't have it, you will struggle to become the best that you can be and struggle to help your teams become the best that they can be.
I discuss 10 different quotes in here. I saved the best one for last, so make sure you listen all the way through to the end. I know you'll be glad you did.
If you want to connect with me at the emails I mention in the episode, they are [email protected] and [email protected].

Our new background music, starting with Episode 300, is "Pulse of Time - Corporate Rock" by TunePocket.
Our background music for the first 5 years of the podcast was "Dance in the Sun" by Krisztian Vass.
Today we move to a new theme of the week - Living with Honor. I chose this theme because this week I will be delivering a speech at the National Honor Society Induction Ceremony at the high school in my hometown. So I thought since the concept of Honor is on my mind and my focus for these few days, I should make it be the theme of the week. I have two quotes for you today, plus a couple of definitions when it comes to honor. Finally, you will also hear the 4 Pillars of the National Honor Society.

Today we move forward from last week's episode on Perspective and move into Creating Your Future Self. This is a long episode, but it might be the most important one I have done. There is a lot of great information for you personally, but also for you to pass on to your kids. I HIGHLY recommend you listen all the way through because there are some really important points and quotes in the last 7 to 10 minutes of it.

**Updated!! Sorry, but once again, I had technical difficulties getting this week's episode uploaded. For some reason, last week's episode showed up instead of this week's. However, I think I've got it done right now.
We continue our Themes of the Week this week with an episode on "Perspective." This is a long episode with many quotes and a long intro to the quotes due to a short discussion on Black History Month and on seeing the light at the end of the tunnel of winter. Don't worry, it will all make sense as to how it all fits into the concept of Perspective when you hear it!

We continue our Themes of the Week concept this week. This week we move into the topic of Passion. (I should have done this topic last week with Valentine's Day being on Tuesday!) I talk about multiple quotes in the episode about the importance of doing things with passion.
I got the quotes from my gift book for senior athletes called, Senior Salute. I wrote Senior Salute, as well as my other gift book for seniors, Inspiration for the Graduate, for coaches to give to their senior athletes on their end-of-season banquets/awards nights and at their seniors' graduations. I have a special running on both books right now. You can check them out on my SlamDunk Success website.

** This is an updated version of what went out earlier this morning, 2/13/23. There was a technical glitch about halfway through the episode that I went back in and fixed.**
We continue our Themes of the Week concept this week. A month ago, the theme was public failure, and the following week I took that concept a step further and talked about responding to failure. The following week I talked about getting in ruts and how to get out of them. Last week I shifted the focus away from failure and over to the other side—Success!
This week we continue talking about success by discussing the rewards and awards we give to people, along with what and how we should be rewarding them. And yes, I mean it when I say in the title—"No More MVPs!" You'll hear why when you listen to the episode.
Speaking of rewards and awards, I wrote my gift books for senior athletes called, Senior Salute & Inspiration for the Graduate, for coaches to give to their senior athletes on their end-of-season banquets/awards nights and at their seniors' graduations. I have a special running on both books right now. You can check them out on my SlamDunk Success website.

We continue our Themes of the Week concept this week. Three weeks ago, the theme was Public Failure, and the following week I took that concept a step further and talked about Responding to Failure. Last week I talked about getting in ruts and how to get out of them.
This week we move into the opposite direction of failure and ruts - Success! I have a few quotes for you from a variety of sources. However, they can all be found in my gift books for senior athletes called, Senior Salute & Inspiration for the Graduate. I wrote both books for coaches to give to their senior athletes on their end-of-season banquets/awards nights and at their seniors' graduations. In this week's episode, I continue a new concept I am doing this year - Themes of the Week. Each week, I will cover a specific theme in the three different media in which I communicate to you. On Mondays, I will talk here on the podcast about a quote or quotes dealing with that theme. On Wednesdays, I will do a video on that theme over on my SlamDunk Success YouTube Channel. And on Fridays, I will have a short blog post on that theme on my SlamDunk Success site.
Two weeks ago, the theme was Failure, and more specifically, Public Failure. Last week I took that concept a step further and talked about Responding to Failure. Some might say this week's episode carries on that concept, but I would disagree.
This week I am talking about something that happens to all of us at some point in time, and for many of us, that point in time is right now—late-January or early-February. The "Dog Days of Winter" can have a powerful, negative effect on us. They can also send us into a rut that it feels like we won't ever get out of. This can feel especially true for winter sport coaches and athletes.
I have six quotes that I discuss in today's episode that discuss this concept and offer some ideas on getting out of the inevitable ruts we will all find ourselves in at one time or another.

Last week's theme was Failure, and more specifically, Public Failure. This week I am taking that concept a step further and talking about Responding to Failure. I have two quotes that I focus on in the episode, but I actually tossed in a third quote as I was discussing the concepts that the other two brought up. This is a great follow-up episode to last week's episode.

This week is devoted to the theme of Failure, and more specifically, Public Failure. While that may seem like a bummer of a theme, it is a critical element of life for us to have to deal with because it is inevitable that we will have failure at various moments in our lives.
Today's quote comes to us from James Clear, the author of one of my favorite books ever, Atomic Habits. I highly recommend you check it out. I got the quote from James Clear's newsletter, which I also highly recommend you check out.
While the quote talks about public failure in sports, the lesson is applicable to all of us. However, since most of you listening to this are coaches, it is HIGHLY applicable to you and how you handle failure when dealing with your teams.
