  • John Maxwell 1 - Seven Steps to Success

Today we start a series devoted to quotes and ideas by leadership and productivity guru John Maxwell. Maxwell is one of the most influential and impactful writers and speakers in the world. He has written so many helpful books for leaders and people seeking success. I highly recommend you check out any of his books.

We start the series with his "Seven Steps to Success." While this is not necessarily a "quote" in the usual sense of the word, it is a series of 7 steps that if you follow, you will see your success rate grow in many ways.

These "Seven Steps to Success" come from Maxwell's book, "Success: One Day at a Time."

  • "Senior Salute" Quotes on Success

Today's episode is filled with multiple quotes about the concept of success. There are nine quotes from nine different people. All of the quotes are in the chapter on "Success" in my new gift book for senior athletes called, "Senior Salute."

There are some common themes that I discuss that you will notice running through these quotes. They are good quotes to highlight those themes, but they also get at the heart of what success truly is and how to get it.

If you're interested in picking up a great gift for a senior athlete, check out "Senior Salute" on the SlamDunk Success website - https://slamdunksuccess.com.

  • Teamwork - Babe Ruth

Today's episode is a minor departure from the direction I was going in the last two episodes. In those episodes,  I was talking about quotes that I took from my gift book for graduating athletes called, "Inspiration for the Graduate."

However, the departure today is not too much of a departure, as I took today's quote from my brand new, hot-off-the-press other gift book for senior athletes called "Senior Salute." I just received my first shipment of the books, so I thought I would make you aware of the book and the Book Launch Special I am running on it at this time by talking about one of the quotes in the book.

The quote is from the chapter on "Teamwork," and it is by legendary baseball player, Babe Ruth. It gets at the heart of the importance of all players playing together, no matter how much talent they may have individually. Late in the episode, I also sneak in a second, extremely popular quote on teamwork by Bang Gae.

With the launch of the new book and with graduations happening right now, I have specials on both books individually and if you buy them together. Go to the Shop page of the SlamDunk Success site to see the incredible deals I have on them.

  • Discipline - Knight & Summitt

Today's episode is the second of a few episodes in which I will be talking about quotes that I took from my gift book for graduating athletes called, "Inspiration for the Graduate." As it is graduation season right now, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight some of the quotes in that book. I wrote the book, so I could give it to my graduating seniors. I soon had other coaches asking me how they could get it, so I published it, and it has been my bestselling book by far.

I am running a special on "Inspiration of the Graduate" for the month of May. Usually, it retails for $7.95, and the 10-pack is $70.00. However, right now, you can get individual copies of it for just $6.95 and the 10-pack for $65.00. Go to the Shop page of the SlamDunk Success site to order it.

In today's episode, I actually talk about two quotes, both of them about the team theme in the book called, "Discipline." The quotes are by two of the all-time great college basketball coaches - Bobby Knight and Pat Summitt. I think they get at the heart of what discipline truly is and why it is so important for success.

  • Thomas Edison - Opportunity Dressed in Overalls

Today's episode is the first of a few episodes in which I will be talking about quotes that I took from my gift book for graduating athletes called, "Inspiration for the Graduate." As it is graduation season right now, I thought it would be appropriate to highlight some of the quotes in that book. I wrote the book, so I could give it to my graduating seniors. I soon had other coaches asking me how they could get it, so I published it, and it has been my bestselling book by far.

In today's episode, I talk about a quote that I can't believe I have not talked about at some point during the first 112 episodes of the podcast because this has long been one of my favorite quotes. I love this quote because of the imagery that Thomas Edison uses to help us understand his point about hard work. And then if you know the story of Thomas Edison's quest to create the light bulb, you see the power of the message that his imagery is conveying.

  • Alain de Botton - Embarrassed by Last Year

Today we have a quote which is another follow-up to the last two weeks' quotes.

Two weeks ago you heard Ernest Hemingway's quote about the nobility of becoming superior to your former self. Last week you heard Dan Sullivan's quote about making your present better by making your future bigger.

Today we hear from Swiss-born British philosopher and author, Alain de Botton. His quote continues in this same vein as the previous two, highlighting the importance of us always learning and striving to become better versions of ourselves.

  • Dan Sullivan - Make Your Future Bigger

Today's episode is a great follow-up to last week's episode in which I talked about a quote from Ernest Hemingway on comparing yourself to your former self instead of comparing yourself to other people.

The quote today is from leadership and professional development author, Dan Sullivan. I heard the quote from a good friend and colleague of his, Dr. Benjamin Hardy. I am subscribed to Dr. Hardy's newsletter/YouTube channel, and I receive multiple videos from him every week.

Today's quote came from Dr. Hardy's 30-Day free course on Creating Your Future Self. It is about the importance of focusing on our future to make our present better.

I highly recommend you check out Dr. Benjamin Hardy at benjaminhardy.com. I also recommend you enroll in his 30-day free course while you are there.

  • Hemingway - True Nobility

Today's quote comes from Ernest Hemingway. While Hemingway was one of the most popular American authors ever, he was also a man who lived life fully. His quote today is a great one that gets at the heart of a message I have talked about to my teams for years and discussed at other times on this podcast. It deals with the comparison game and how too many people get caught up in comparing themselves to other people, which is generally, a losing proposition. Hemingway's quote gets at the heart of what we should focus on most.

  • Napoleon Bonaparte & Damian Lillard - People Trade What They Want Most

Today's quote comes to us from French general and emperor, Napoleon Bonaparte. However, I heard the quote from NBA superstar, Damian Lillard, of the Portland Trailblazers.

Last week, I talked about a quote by Jon Gordon that I heard on his "Power of Positive Summit." I also heard today's quote on the summit during Damian Lillard's presentation.

His presentation was great, and he said this quote as he was explaining how, as a young man in high school and early on in college, he would all too often not do the things he knew he needed to do to become the player and person he wanted to be. He said from the moment he heard this quote, it changed him, and he started progressing toward the success he sought at a much faster rate.

This quote is a great one for all of us, whether we are coaches/athletes, teachers/students,  parents/children, or leaders/followers. Love this quote and the message it provides us!

  • Jon Gordon - Negativity Fills the Void

Today's quote comes from positivity, leadership, and personal development author, speaker, and guru Jon Gordon. I have followed Jon Gordon for quite some time. I love his messages for my own personal development, as well as for using with the various teams in my life.

I mention "positivity" with Jon Gordon because so much of what he communicates is about the importance and power of being positive. I heard today's quote while he was speaking to LA Rams Head Football Coach, Sean McVay, on a video summit that  Gordon is hosting right now called, The Power of Positive Summit. He has numerous speakers doing short video lessons, most of which have a very positive message.

Today's quote, though, came from Jon Gordon himself. It deals with the concept that if we aren't careful or intentional about our communications, negativity will creep in and sabotage them. That's exactly what happened to me yesterday, and I talk a bit about how Jon's message hit home with me this morning when I heard it.

I highly recommend you check out Jon Gordon if you have not done so before at jongordon.com.
