After taking a few weeks off and playing replays of our most popular episodes, we're back with the first episode of Season 4. We kick off this new season with a quote from former NFL quarterback Drew Bledsoe talking about his career with Bill Belichick and the New England Patriots.
I heard this quote last week while listening to the podcast "Beyond the Xs & Os" with Trent Dilfer, another former NFL quarterback. It is my favorite podcast right now (other than this one!), and there are so many great lessons for us to learn from it.
Bledsoe and Dilfer were talking about the way the Patriots operate and how not all teams and coaches operate that way. This quote prompted me to talk about two other quotes in this episode, too - one by Dilfer and one by me.

Our new background music, starting with Episode 300, is "Pulse of Time - Corporate Rock" by TunePocket.
Our background music for the first 5 years of the podcast was "Dance in the Sun" by Krisztian Vass.
As you have heard on the last few episodes, I am taking a break from recording new episodes of the podcast over the course of about 5 weeks during this holiday season and into January. However, you will still get to hear episodes, as I am releasing replays of some of our most popular episodes over the first 90 episodes.
Today, you will hear the #1 most downloaded episode of the show, Episode 46. In it, I spoke with my best friend in the world over the last 55 years, Bob Kuykendall. Bob has taught and coached at Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois for 40 years. We taught and coached together for 11 years at Carmel, starting when we were fresh out of college in 1982. I moved west in 1993, but Bob stayed on and has been a fixture at Carmel ever since.
His quote is one that he has used with his wrestling teams throughout his entire career, as well as using it in his English classroom. It is a great quote by Walt Whitman, made famous in the movie "Dead Poet's Society."

The last few weeks you heard episodes dealing with the concept of success. Three weeks ago, you heard the replay of Episode 1 in which I discussed the famous quote, "Success is a journey, not a destination." Two weeks ago, you heard the second episode of the show that built on the concept of what true success is by discussing John Wooden's definition of success. And then last week you heard another Wooden episode (Episode 52) in which I kicked off a series on Wooden's "Pyramid of Success."
Today we hear the second-most downloaded episode of the show, Episode 4, in which I discuss a quote about honesty and integrity by former First Lady, Michelle Obama. When you hear the quote and the different layers to it, I think you will see why this was such a popular episode.

As you heard on the last couple of shows, I will be taking a break from recording new episodes of the podcast over the course of about 5 weeks during the 2021 holiday season and into January. Last week you heard the replay of Episode 1 of the podcast in which I discussed the famous quote, "Success is a journey, not a destination." Today I decided to give you the second episode of the show because that episode built on the concept of what true success is by discussing John Wooden's definition of success.
Wooden's definition of success was the foundation on which he built his "Pyramid of Success." It also became my own definition of success.

I am releasing replays of some of our most popular episodes over the first 90 episodes. So today we start with the very first episode that kicked things off back in May of 2020!
The famous quote, "Success is a journey, not a destination," kicked off our inaugural episode. Listen in as Scott describes how this impactful quote can help you focus on what is most important with your teams.

Today's episode is the last new episode I will release for a little while. As we are into the holiday season, I have decided that over the course of the next month, I am going to take a break from recording new episodes of the show.
Instead, after today's episode, the next 4 episodes will be reruns of the four most downloaded shows of the first 90 that we have recorded. This will allow me to spend some more quality time with my family over the holidays.
With that idea in mind, today's episode has about a dozen quotes for you on rest, relaxation, taking a break, and the importance of family.
I hope you enjoy these quotes, and I hope you, too, will make the effort to spend some quality time with your families over the holiday season.

Last week I talked about a quote from Seneca, a Roman philosopher and writer. It was about the importance of having role models and people who we look up to and measure ourselves against. I also said that this week I would be doing three more quotes that I felt would be a good follow-up to that quote.
Well, here we are. The first quote is from German author, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe; the second quote is from Harvard social psychologist, Dr. David McClelland; and the third quote is from success and leadership guru, Jim Rohn. All three talk about the importance of who we hang out with the most and the impact that they have on our lives.
I love this episode because I talk about three quotes that get at the heart of something I have taught my students, athletes, and my own kids through the years.

A little over a month ago, I did a video over on the SlamDunk Success YouTube Channel about Stoicism. I had listened to a book about the topic on my Chirp app, and it was intriguing. It also provided a variety of ideas for me to talk about on video, in blog posts, and here on the podcast.
Today's quote comes from Lucius Seneca, a Roman philosopher and writer who was one of the early voices of Stoicism. The quote is not about Stoicism. It's just a quote I have had sitting in a document of quotes that I refer to at times when finding quotes for my teams or for this podcast. I like this quote a lot, so I thought I would talk about it today.
This quote is also a bit of a precursor to three other quotes that I will talk about next week from three different people in three different time periods. While they have nothing do do with Stoicism either, I think they make for great follow-ups to what Seneca talks about in today's quote.

Today we are back to the interview format for the show. I interview veteran college football coach and current 6-12 principal of the River Valley Community School District in Correctionville, Iowa, Adam Bisenius.
Like Coach Dave Maynard two weeks ago in Episode 86, Adam first heard this quote as a young boy when his father said it to a team he was coaching. It stuck with Adam ever since those days, and he has used it in his own coaching, teaching, and now as an administrator, both with kids and adults, too.
The quote is, "Don't be afraid of hard." While Adam discusses how he used it with his sports teams, he has had to use it a lot over the last year with his team of teachers, as they have had to navigate instructing kids through a pandemic. We have a great discussion about the quote, as well as a variety of other coaching and athletic topics that our discussion led to.
If you would like to connect with Adam and discuss anything he brought up on the show, he can be reached at [email protected]. His school district's website address is rvwolverines.org.
