In our familiar text, David was under great distress. Their town had been burned, their wives and children had been carried off and his own men were ready to kill him. Through all of this, David encouraged himself in the Lord. As important as it is to have friends who can help us in time of need, it is equally important to be able to encourage ourselves. How did David encourage himself? How did he face all of that situation and encourage himself. The answer may lie in Ephesians 5:19 where the bible says to speak ourselves in psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Psalms are songs celebrating all that God had promised to the children of Israel. David encouraged himself by remembering of the promises of God. Hymns are songs written about biblical doctrine and truth. They speak of and celebrate God’s power and might. Hymns remind us of the facts of God and when we remember the facts, there is no room for the fiction about our situation. Finally, David encouraged himself with spiritual songs. These are songs of experience. It is a song that only you can sing, but only you know what God has brought you through.

There is a desire in America to see revival. There will be a great revival, but for that to happen, all of us must be prepared for it. If you and I do not believe it will happen, it will not. If it becomes the desire of our life, we will see what God has for us in these last days. Around the world there is incredible revival happening. Bro. Hughes has spoken to 14 pastors in China who pastor churches that minister to over 20,000 people each that have to meet underground to avoid persecution. Just as God is pouring out revival in China, He wants to do that in America too. It it becomes part of our will and desire, it will take place. ONe of the obstacles to great revival in America is the attack and decline on the family. We will not see revival until we address the problems in the American family. In the early times of our movement, church began at home. For far too many people, church only occurs at the church building. For revival to take place, we have to have healing within the family environment. The curse of the garden is that our flesh will try to control us. If we fail to control our flesh, it will destroy our homes and everyone around us. If we ever hope to heal our families, we must learn to control our flesh.

The Psalmist was smart enough to keep his thoughts inside. He did not vocalize them because he knew he was on a slippery slope. He then realized that he needed to get to the sanctuary. When we change the tone of our life, it changes our tune. The Psalmist found a solution to his problems in the presence of God. He found his answer in the ministry of the sanctuary.
