We will never realize the fruits of what God has to offer if we do not take the seeds He plants and cultivate them into action. All that God is waiting for is to open the door to Him. All that God desires is the opportunity.

In closing his letter to the church at Corinth, Paul offers five pieces of advice. The first four are about protecting themselves from external threats. But the final point describes the environment in which the church should exist. It speaks to a family relationship with each other. He uses two words in exclamation about those who do not love each other in this way: Anathema and Maranatha. Anathema refers to an intense dislike. Up to this point, Paul was writing in Greek, but Maranatha is an Aramaic word that can be translated as the Lord comes. The first-century church lived with an expectancy that Jesus would return. Now, many centuries later, we do not have such an expectancy. We know he is coming, but we do not always live like He is coming. How much differently would we live if we expected Jesus to come tomorrow? Maranatha must become the watchword of the church.
