Publisher's Summary:
Rose Donahue was only seventeen when her life was turned upside down. Rose was a young child when her family came from Ireland in hopes of a better life. Things seemed to be going well. They had acquired a tiny homestead in Texas, and her father enjoyed working on the land. Rose being an only child, was close to her parents. A band of Apache Indians attacked the homestead. Rose's mother sent her into a hidey hole under the floor where they kept their potatoes and onions. When Rose came out of the cellar, the house had been burned to the ground, and her parents were dead.
Travis Caldwell has been trapping since he was a young boy, he had always been a loner. When he saw smoke he went to investigate. Seeing Rose rise out of the ashes alarmed him at first. He took her with him. Neither of them realized that one of the Indians that attacked the homestead was watching, and is determined to have Rose for his squaw. Rose convinced Travis to take her to California, where her only remaining family was. Was Travis able to reunite Rose with her family, and was he able to protect her from the Indian, who was obsessed with her?
Gold Rush Dream was a short audiobook, but each moment is chock full of action. Rose was a very tough young lady, the tenacity she showed by overcoming such tragedy, was amazing. With Rose's red hair and blue eyes, the Indian who pursued her believed she had the spirit of fire and water and thought by taking her to his tribe, they would respect him. While the author didn't give a great description of Travis, his kind, caring, compassionate acts toward Rose, allowed the listener to see how beautiful he was on the inside.

Wonderful Historic Romantic Suspense
From the very first page of this book I was drawn into this amazing historical wworld that Billie Sue Mosiman paints with her words. My heart breaks more than once in this book for the main female character, Rose Donahue. But she is so strong that you just know that she can overcome anything that she has to endure.
The main male in this book will capture your heart with his kindness and compassion. Travis is a mighty force to be reckoned with and as his love grows he knows that his life will always be complete as long as he has the woman he loves.
The villain of this story is a non stop beast who is surprised at himself for what he is doing. But his obsession with the one he considers his will not let him stop.
When you open this book you don't read it, you hop on the wagon trail and ride along through the adventure for family, gold and a place to call home.
A rare gem for Mosiman fans
This is a rare gem for Mosiman fans. A few years back Billie Sue authored this tale under the name of Naomi Stahl and it slipped past most of her fans, myself included. Though the story is a western with a romance backbone there is a surprisingly dark undercurrent at work here. I read the scathing review earlier and really don't understand the fuss. Nowhere is it stated this book is for children or young adults, and it's not. This the tale of two people thrown together after a horrifying ordeal, not at all uncommon in the days the American Western Frontier and their journey hundreds of miles West from Texas to California, all the while being stalked by an unseen enemy. The hardships Rose and Travis face on this near impossible quest, peppered with some heart wrenching moments one only finds in the best of the romance field, make this an enjoyable cross genre read.
