    Title: Scribbling the Cat
Subtitle: Travels with an African Soldier
    Author: Alexandra Fuller
    Narrator: Lisette Lecat
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 9 hrs and 21 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-20-04
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 166 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
K is, seemingly, a man of contradictions: tattooed, battle scarred, and weathered by farm work, he is a lion of a man, feral and bulletproof. Yet he is also a born-again Christian, given to weeping when he recollects his failed romantic life, and more than anything else welling up inside with memories of battle. For his war, like all wars, was a brutal one, marked by racial strife, jungle battles, unimaginable tortures, and the murdering of innocent civilians, and K has blood on his hands.
Driven by K's memories, Fuller and K decide to enter the heart of darkness in the most literal way, by traveling from Zambia through Zimbabwe (formerly Rhodesia) and Mozambique to visit the scenes of the war and to meet other veterans. It is a strange journey into the past, one marked at once by somber reflections and odd humor. What results from Fuller's journey is a remarkably unbiased and unsentimental glimpse of men who have killed, mutilated, tortured, and scrambled to survive during wartime and who now must attempt to live with their past and live past their sins. In these men, too, we get a glimpse of life in Africa, a land that besets its creatures with pests, plagues, and natural disasters, making the people there at once more hardened and more vulnerable than elsewhere.
Scribbling the Cat is an engrossing and haunting look at war, Africa, and the lines of sanity.
    Critic Reviews:
"Fuller's unflinching look at K, war, and even herself makes for an extremely powerful book, one that takes readers into a complex, deep-seated, and ongoing conflict and sees through to its heart. Fuller is a truly gifted and insightful writer." (Booklist)
"Fuller evokes place and character with the vivid prose that distinguished her unflinching memoir of growing up in Africa." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    Astonishing
This is truly an amazing book by a very interesting lady. One cannot help but admire the brutal honesty of her writing and her determination to grow at any cost. One wonders however what her husband thinks of her adventures.
This book is far stranger than "Don't ... Dogs Tonight", but is equally compelling. For me, it has the same ability to transport me back to Africa that "... Dogs..." had which does not just mean evoking past experiences, sights and smells. Once in a while I had to shake myself and remind myself that I live in the US.
Having known many Ks, the description of K and his friends ring very true. If I had the honesty and integrity of the author, I would have to say here that it also revealed some small hidden parts of myself to me.
I enjoyed this book thoroughly and was sorry when I got to the end of it, but am reluctant to make a blanket recommendation of it as I imagine that some readers may find it more than a little weird. However, if you have a strong stomach and would like to try something different, then this is your book.
    Good narration
I would have preferred to give this book 3 1/2 stars, but the program will not allow it. I just loved DOn't Let's Go the Dogs Tonight and I could not wait to liste to this book. While I did find it interesting Don't Lets Go was a far better and more engaging story.
I might have liked this one more had I not just listened to the first. Alexandra Fuller is an excellent writter and this book is no exception.

    Great imagery.
I like the authors use of words to create a scene or feeling. Except the big fight scene, that was hard to follow along while listening. Maybe that's clearer for readers, or maybe I just don't love those parts of books and start to tune out then get confused!

    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 52 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-21-16
    Publisher: P. Anastasia
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 5 votes
    Genres: Teens, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
    Publisher's Summary:
The second book in the Fluorescence series.
A riveting paranormal romance, the Fluorescence series is engaging and unabashed - a coming-of-age urban fantasy unlike any other. The fire has been started and things have changed for the Fluorescent Ones. Brian is fighting to keep the seams of a once stable life from unraveling as a massive turn of events thrusts him into chaos. The Saviors had a terrible secret in store, and now he and the others must make decisions that will impact their future forever.
In a unique genre all its own, Fluorescence is a striking blend of audacious young love and urban sci-fi.
Each full-length novel in the series is narrated by a different character, driving the story forward in a new and exciting way. It evolves from a quiet beginning into a gripping saga exploring the real-life limitations encountered while harboring a volatile secret.
    Members Reviews:
A brilliant continuation! Looking forward to more!
I wish to start out by saying that this book continued the storyline of the characters from the first Fluorescence book in an interesting and unique way. I find the idea of the different sections of the story being told from the different perspectives really intriguing and I like that you get different aspects of the story that way. Seeing how a different character thinks and feels about the same unfair situation adds a level of depth to the whole series.
That being said, I did find the narrator character in this one to be much harder to identify with. Perhaps that's because, as a woman, I was never a brash, teenage boy. Seems pretty likely the case. There are just certain ways that he reacts to a situation and decisions that he makes that I can't understand. But by no means am I saying this is innately a problem, either. If every character in a book you read were exactly like you and made all of the choices exactly like you would make them, there'd be no fun in the reading. So while I didn't understand his reasoning for doing certain things, it made sense that he would make different decisions than those I feel are most reasonable because he's a different person and has different experiences than myself.
The overall plot continues in this book in a way that is helped along by the addition of a character who is placed there to help deal with the fact that the teens are getting sick of being strung along. They're beginning to do that thing that most teenagers do... Rebel. And in going against the wishes of the strange beings manipulating their lives, they find themselves with a new keeper of sorts who is in charge of making sure they do what they're supposed to. It was an interesting twist that I didn't see coming, but made a lot of sense.
I look forward to the third book and seeing what kind of consequences await them all for the decisions that were made in this portion of the story. And to see through the eyes of the next character.
Also, as always, the author does an amazing job with the narration. She has a real skill for portraying the characters in believable ways and giving each of them a clear voice.
Their world spinning out of control
Forced on a quest they didn't ask for and barely understand.
Contagious picks up right where Fire Starter left off, only this time we are told the story from Brian's point of view. If you enjoyed the first book in the series then you won't want to miss this one.

    to pass the time
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I got this book since it received pretty good reviews from goodreads and thought I would give it a listen....
this was a pleasant book to listen to and pass the time. The narrator was easy to listen to but I honestly didn't like the way Alan was narrated (my personal opinion not that the narrator was bad I just thought he could have been voiced differently). The mermaid and siren aspects I absolutely loved and wish more time was spent in that world it really makes you re think everything sirens and mermaids are thought to be like.
over all story flowed well there just wasn't much going on in the book the author had so many avenues this book could have gone down I feel she chose a safe path the story was not exciting yet not boring just an easy read/listen.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
    no

A Story Behind the Greatest Story Ever Told!
The Cityâ, the fourth book in the Seventh Dimension Series, contains enough cliff-hangers to entertain even the most adventurous soul, but also has an underlying current of faith, hope, and even love. It is truly a Book-of-Revelation, end-times, Danielâs seventieth week story that not only stays true to scripture, but is truly plausible in many of its events. This book will not only entertain you, but it may even inspire you to follow the One who is Faithful and True!
    The City--an end times scenario
I liked all the books in Lorilyn Robertâs 7th Dimension series but I think I liked this one the best! I say that because of the ease with which I could allow myself to be sucked into the narrative. Roberts really hit her stride with this one!
Superb writingâcharacters are either likeable or hate-able, the plot never lags, and sentences flow like silk.
I particularly enjoyed the ending. Robertsâ treatment of âthe end of daysâ was true to history and Scripture as well as being memorable. By that I mean, the word pictures she draws for you stay with you for daysâespecially the descriptions of Sheol.
I would definitely recommend this book for the YA audience. However, any adult would also enjoy it. I certainly did and Iâm a great grandmother! The City has everything: historical fiction, fantasy, romance, and adventure. What more could you ask for!
"The City" held the attention of this reluctant reader
This is what my son said about "The City," the fourth book in the Seventh Dimension series:
An adventure filled story that brings understanding and life to Bible prophecy. Exciting, captivating. I never knew what was going to happen next. It kept me up at night reading. A good read. Very well written. - Andrew Colby, 14 years old
    A trip through hell
I am getting to know the characters of Lori's book as I have read the first three books. There continues to be adventure and intrigue with Shale's adventures. The story is full of Biblical principles and concepts with a believable story line. The story got me to check the Bible, Ha! This book was just as hard to put down as the other three.l
    Absolutely loved
Just finished this series this morning. Absolutely loved it

    Publisher's Summary:
Fifteen-year-old Courtney wants to be normal like her friends. But there's something frighteningly different about her - and it's not just the mysterious tattoo her conspiracy-obsessed grandfather marked her with when she was a child. Courtney is being in visited in her bedroom at night by alien creatures claiming to have shared an alliance with her grandfather. And either she's going crazy, or they're trying to recruit her and take over her mind.
The last thing Courtney wants to do is end up crazy and dead like her grandfather, but what about the strange tattoo he left her? And the mystery surrounding his disappearance? And Courtney's once imaginary friend Agatha Kirlich and her apocalyptic visions?
With Agatha's help, Courtney begins to connect the dots between her past, present, and future, of her alien bloodline and the ancient history that surrounds it, her strange visitors, and the impeding apocalypse.
So is she going insane, like her family claimed her grandfather did, or is she actually a chosen one, with ancestral connections to another world? Either way, Courtney has a mission: untangle her past, discover the truth, and close the alien wormhole before her world is destroyed.
    Members Reviews:
    Stefani. Is. Brilliant.
This is the best book I've read/listened to all day!! Seriously. Who could better capture the genius of madness other than a madman himself. Masterfully crafted and poignantly demonstrative of the terribly beautiful power of the subconscious.
This book left me questioning what is sanity
There are no such things as aliens, except I have no doubt that was what Courtney was dealing with, or was it? Hereditary mental illness? Or something in the bloodline that makes them able to communicate with aliens?
The story is so well written you can see each as a possibility and the book sucks you down the rabbit hole where you question all you know about mental health. Is Courtney saving the world, or is the worm hole just a delusion? You can tell in reading this book that the author has some background knowledge of mental illness especially in the alien abduction phenomenon and his description of lucid dreaming was so real it brought back memories. I have not been so throughly immersed in a book in a while.
Thank you to the author for the gift of the book in exchange for an fair review. I look forward to future books you write.
    Different and exciting!
Courtney is visited by aliens. It's been happening since she was a child. Her mother doesn't believe her, not only that, her behavior towards Courtney and her alien visits is cruel. Every time Courtney mentions something to her, Courtney ends up a mental hospital. Her mother even tells her that her grandfather tries to drown her when she was a child. Courtney realizes this is lie when she visits her deceased grandfather's cottage. This is where the story really gets good and twists.
I enjoyed this story. The pace is fairly quick and there's mystery and suspense as Courtney delves into the mystery of the aliens and her deceased grandfather learning there's far more to the whole story than she ever imagined.
    Definitely worth listening to.

    Fantastic!
Loved every word of The Prey series! From the opening of The Prey to the last line in The Release this series never disappoints! I highly recommend this series to everyone who loves great YA novels!
    I am a huge fan!
    Action packed.
This book in the trilogy came to a good conclusion. This book was jammed packed with action and we saw how young adults are able to survive in a post apocalypse society. Leadership comes in many forms and across all ages. This was a good summer read.
    Good book
Bought the book for the girlfirend as she has been reading the series and she loves the series
Fabulous, heart-pounding end to the trilogy.
Fabulous, heart-pounding end to the trilogy. These books need to be on the big screen!
    a scarily possible dystopia
This series started out great and got better with each book. A scarily possible dystopia with an appealing cast of characters and a fully realized world, THE RELEASE is also a page-turner like you wouldn't believe (I read the whole 350+ pages in two days, which I'm pretty sure is a record for me). Though the series was conceived and written long before this past year's election, and though it's certainly not a partisan exercise, it strikes me that the tale of a fascist U.S. that marginalizes and criminalizes those it deems different is particularly germane in the current political climate. Whether you like fast-paced adventure stories or chilling reflections on the nature of evil, this series is for you.

    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 468 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
Already a BBC documentary miniseries and excerpted in the Guardian, We Bought a Zoo is a profoundly moving portrait of an unforgettable family living in the most extraordinary circumstances. This touching memoir is set to be a major motion picture starring Scarlett Johansson and Matt Damon, in theaters December 23, 2011.
When Benjamin Mee decided to uproot his family and move them to an unlikely new homea dilapidated zoo in the English countryside where over two hundred exotic animals would be their new neighborshis friends and colleagues thought he was crazy. But Mees dream was to refurbish the zoo and run it as a family business. So in 2006, Mee, his wife and two children, his brother, and his 76-year-old mother moved into the Dartmoor Wildlife Park. Their extended family now included: Solomon, an African lion and scourge of the local golf course; Zak, the rickety alpha wolf, a broadly benevolent dictator clinging to power; Ronnie, a Brazilian tapir, easily capable of killing a man but hopelessly soppy; and Sovereign, a jaguar and would-be ninja, who devised a long-term escape plan and implemented it.
The grand reopening was scheduled for spring, but there was much work to be done and none of it easy for these novice zookeepers. Tigers broke loose, money was tight, the staff grew skeptical, and family tensions reached a boiling point.
Then tragedy struck. Katherine Mee, Benjamins wife, had a recurrence of a brain tumor, forcing Benjamin and his two young children to face the heartbreak of illness and the devastating loss of a wife and mother. Inspired by the memory of Katherine and the healing power of the incredible family of animals they had grown to love, Benjamin and his kids resolved to move forward. Today the zoo is a thriving success.
    Editorial Reviews:
Benjamin Mee's We Bought a Zoo oscillates between being a hilarious tale of a family managing a shabby zoo in Southwest England and a truly heart-wrenching story about love and personal loss.
The Mees decide to pool their assets to buy Dartmoor Zoological Park (formerly Dartmoor Wildlife Park) on what seems to be an earnest whim. While lawyers and bankers prattle over the fine print, Benjamin has another very serious problem to deal with: his wife, Katherine, is dying of brain cancer.
Narrator Gildart Jackson displays a range well-suited to Mee's own voice. He makes sure that the funny parts stay funny, while also delving fully into the sadder aspects of the story. When Mee is tasked with moving a deadly big cat from an enclosure to a nearby van, Jackson imbues his performance with equal parts anxiety and absurdity. Contrarily, there is nothing but real pain in his voice when he recounts an intense period of Katherine's rapidly deteriorating health.
We Bought a Zoo is less about the animals than the people involved with Benjamin Mee's purchase and the upkeep of this life-altering family business. There are the previous owners, who are quirky and unmovable in their strange demands. There's also a parade of zoological professionals (curators, veterinarians, handymen, and keepers) woven seamlessly into the fabric of the tale.
