April 03, 2017How to Neighbor, Week 3 – For the ForgottenWe all have those people in our lives and in our neighborhoods who are easy to overlook, or who we’d RATHER overlook than concern ourselves with. But yet God calls us to love them. Jesus even goes so far as to make an undeniable connection between our eternity and the love we have for our neighbors. So what do we do with that? In this message we gain some insight from the parable found in Luke 10:25-37 where Jesus gives us an example of someone who stops to help a man in need while everyone else is simply passing him by. This message gives us a good picture of how we should treat those neighbors who are just a little harder to love. March 27, 2017How to Neighbor, Week 2 – For the LostIn this 4-week miniseries, we look at the command (all over Scripture) to "love your neighbor as yourself". We tend to make this allegorical or symbolic, but what if it's not? What if Jesus was being literal? What if He meant that you are supposed to love, reach out to, help, and make relationships with your ACTUAL neighbors? If that's the case, then He gave us a simple yet incredibly effective blueprint on how to change the world...one neighbor at a time. In this particular week, we talk about how to make not only friends out of your neighbors, but disciples out of them too. March 13, 2017Luke, Part 57 – The Now and the Not YetThis series is a verse-by-verse expository series on the Gospel of Luke. In this message, Pastor Jake preaches through Luke 17:20-37. In that passage, some pharisees ask when the Kingdom of God is going to come. Jesus answers in two ways: now...and not yet. The Kingdom of God is just God's people, in God's place, under God's rule. When Jesus came, He brought all of that. That's why He said the Kingdom of God is at hand, in the midst of you, right here. But He also talked about a day that has yet to happen when the Kingdom will be established in every aspect for eternity. Are you ready for that? March 06, 2017Luke, Part 56 – 10 LepersThis series is a verse-by-verse expository series on the Gospel of Luke. In this message, Pastor Jake preaches through Luke 17:11-19. 10 lepers ask Jesus to heal them and He tells them to go to the priests to present themselves as healed. The problem? They actually weren't. They had to step out in faith and believe they would be healed even though their bodies were still riddled with the disease. As they did that, each and every one of them was healed. While they were all no doubt thankful for being healed (they'd rather that than not), only one came back to Jesus to give thanks and worship. Is it a big deal? We might not think so, but Jesus did. A heart that is thankful to God is important to Jesus. February 27, 2017Luke, Part 55 – The Right Way to FightThis series is a verse-by-verse expository series on the Gospel of Luke. In this message, Pastor Jake preaches through Luke 17:1-10. Conflict will happen, no matter how “Christian” you are. So it’s important that we know the rules to fight right, in a way that honors God. Jesus gives us those in Luke 17. Will you follow them? February 20, 2017Luke, Part 54 – The Great ReversalThis series is a verse-by-verse expository series on the Gospel of Luke. In this message, Pastor Jake preaches through the parable of the rich man and Lazarus at the end of Luke 16. A Barna study said that 80% of pastors have never preached on poverty. 80%! And yet Jesus, Isaiah, James, John, Micah (and pretty much the whole Bible) talked about it a lot! We're talking about it because Jesus talked about it in Luke 16. You simply cannot please God without caring for the poor. [This message was preached by Pastor Jake Mills at Green Bay First on February 19, 2017]...more47minPlay
February 13, 2017Luke, Part 53 – Jesus and DivorceThis series is a verse-by-verse expository series on the Gospel of Luke. In this message, Pastor Jake preaches talks about Luke 16:18. Divorce is a difficult subject because it causes so much pain in the lives of families everywhere. Malachi 2 says that God hates it. God's commands are for His glory and our joy. So, even if it's painful, explore what the Bible says about divorce, the Biblical grounds for divorce, and how to keep from divorce with us by listening to this message and sharing it with friends! February 06, 2017Luke, Part 52 – Bad News FirstThis series is a verse-by-verse expository series on the Gospel of Luke. In this message, Pastor Jake preaches through Luke 16:14-18. Have you ever found yourself justifying a mistake you made? Explaining to someone that you couldn't have done anything differently, so it wasn't your fault? What about something you know isn't right? Have you ever taken an honest look at yourself and found that you've been rationalizing around something that is just wrong? That's what the Pharisees were doing in Luke 16. But because Jesus loved them (as He loves you in your sin), He explained to them that self-justification doesn't matter when it comes to God, because He already knows your heart and true motives. And you can't fix it yourself. That's the bad news. But what's the good news? Listen to this message to pass it on to a friend!
