  • (428) Burnaby Mountain Confidential
Kevin Farmer and myself take on the full show this week as we try out a more free form format this week (OK I just didn't have time to book a guest) but it turned out great! The primary difference was that we had topics and no guest, but also that we were taking live twitter comments and questions, interactive woo! Let us know what you think and if there's enough demand we will do more shows like this.

  • (427) The Water Brothers Grimm
The main interview this week is our old friends Tyler and Alex Mifflin aka TVO's "The Water Brothers". An award winning show, now in production of it's third season Alex and Tyler have had great success balancing education, entertainment, accessibility and urgency to important issues around one of the very few things on this earth we actually can't do without... Water.

  • CaterToronto and China/US Climate Deal
This weeks interview is with Vanessa Ling Yu, Director of Food Forward. Food Forward is a not-for-profit that educates and advocates for smart food policy in Toronto, particularly with relation to poverty and access to healthy food for all. Vanessa is a passionate food advocate, and talks to us about food access, poverty and public policy as well as helping us understand the CaterToronto initiative they offer in particular.
Stefan, Kevin and I spend the rest of the show digging into the recent "blockbuster" announcement of a non-binding agreement with China to curb carbon in the near future. The internet and environmentalists are abuzz with the news, but does it really mean anything? Our team of crack pundits takes a stab at this question.

  • (425) Food Fight Part 2
Our main feature this week is part two of a two part interview with Hayley Lapalme from My Sustainable Canada and Dave Kranenberg Director of Programming for the Centre for Social Innovation (and former Executive Director of Meal Exchange). In this episode, our guests discuss the some success stories from the local food movement and the role of urban farming in addressing chronic hunger and healthy food access.
After our feature, we hear from our regular correspondent Katie Gibbs, executive director of Evidence for Democracy. Katie updates us on a campaign they just launched to reinstate the long form census, which you can find here.

  • (420) Doors Open Politics
First up, Claire Malcolmson who is the Manager of Campaign Fairness at the Rescue Lake Simcoe Coalition who joins us to talk about their Campaign Fairness initiative. While this may not seem like an obvious connection for a primarily environmental focused organization, Claire connects the dots for us with some startling facts about the effect of industry donations to municipal election campaigns.
Secondly, we are joined by Kristopher Stevens who is the Executive Director of the Ontario Sustainable Energy Association to talk to us generally about renewable energy in Canada, but more specifically about Green Energy Doors Open 2014 which is a showcase of renewable energy projects in communities in Alberta, Ontario and is even now spreading into the USA in partnership with Decentralized Energy Canada.

  • (421) Measuring Success
Angela Bischoff, outreach co-ordinator for the Ontario Clean Air Alliance starts off the show with an update on their campaigns including a report back from the Peoples Climate March, Great Lakes Nuclear Dump campaign and upcoming election issues. You can read more about Angela who is now a regular contributor to our program on our contributors page here.
Our main interview is with Mike Morrice, executive director and co-founder of the Sustainability CoLab. SCoLab was started as a Waterloo project to help provide metrics for cities and businesses to measure and thereby effectively implement voluntary sustainability initiatives. SCoLab’s approach is different in the emphasis on metrics but also by taking the idea that it’s participants should be celebrated for the changes they can and do make, rather than attacking them for what they aren’t doing. SCoLab has seen a huge expansion since it’s inception and is now a big player in the sustainability field in Canada.
