Until The Thaw
Dogs that bark at shadows, Just
As the morning sun rays, Start
Melting snow to ribbons laid out
Decorating garden lawns
Out they come the children, They’re
Damning up the water, They’re
Straying further from their homesteads
Creaking on their rusted chrome bikes
A Winter Walk
Until the thaw
A Winter walk to clear his head because she turned him down again
He left his car beside the gate just as the snow began to fall down
Further out they cycled, On
Tracks buried for seven weeks
In a snowdrift something glimpsed, Red
Crimson glove that seemed to wave, Dead
A Winter Walk
Until the thaw (when they’ll find him in a prison made of snow)
A Winter walk to clear his head because she turned him down again
He left his car beside the gate just as the snow began to fall down
On the ridge he lost his balance
Tumbling over rock
As he fell his final thought was
Never waved goodbye
A Winter Walk
Until the thaw (when they’ll find him in a prison made of snow)
A Winter walk to clear his head because she turned him down again
He left his car beside the gate just as the snow began to lay
And when the snow is thawed his tears evaporate into the air
