  • Q&A | Why Do I Struggle In Friendships and Find Parenting Unfulfilling?

In today's episode, I share an a-ha realization with you: a question I've wondered about myself for the past eighteen years.

I answer my own question in today's episode regarding relationships with friends, my kids, and myself.

An important aspect of growth is self-awareness. Sometimes, we need to hear the right thing at the right time, unlocking an a-ha moment we've been waiting to receive. Those a-ha moments can shift our perspective or even possibly change the trajectory of our entire lives.

The best way to put ourselves in the way of a-ha moments is by diving into self-awareness, utilizing tools, and seeking out connections with others who can reflect what we can't see for ourselves.

As you listen to this episode, maybe you can relate, and if you do, I hope it's the encouragement you need to explore the inner workings of your mind and heart, too.

I share a special poem about grief a little more than mid-way through the episode. If you've experienced grief due to the loss of a loving or not-so-loving relationship, I know you will resonate with the poem. Let its verses remind you that you're not alone in your journey, and hope awaits you.

This is to remind you not just during this National Grief Awareness Day and National Overdose Awareness Day, but every day is a reminder that you are not alone in your journey. These days remind us of our collective strength, resilience, and capacity for healing. Reach out to your support network, share your feelings, and honor those no longer with us. • Phoebe Leona: Where Are They Now? | Magic in the Mess

This week, we catch up with the previous Grieving Voices guest, Phoebe Leona.

I had received a newsletter from Phoebe providing some updates that, I felt, would be a great episode to talk about the potential/impending loss of something she had built with love, sweat, tears, and probably plenty of finances, too.

Sometimes, to grow and evolve, we need to close one door so another may open. Little did I expect that as this episode goes live, I feel we could record a third episode - stay tuned...

Back to this episode; this is for you if you feel stuck in a mess and have difficulty feeling the magic of the situation and your experience. As Phoebe shares in this episode: "When it is meant for you, you cannot mess it up."

Be a fly on the wall of this conversation about growth, hard transitions, finding love again, and perhaps more importantly...finding yourself and the magic while in the mess. Or, as I like to say, the thick of the ick.

  • Dr. Amirah Hall | The Aftermath and Awakening of a Near-Death Experience

This week's guest is no stranger to death. By the age of 20, she had attended 20 funerals. As an adult, she buried her father while, at the same time, her marriage was ending and her health was deteriorating. Little did Amirah know at the time that all of that loss would lead her on a path of self-discovery, understanding, and acceptance of the gifts she had been given.

Dr. Amirah Hall had always believed she came from a typical, ordinary, normal family, where love and support were the cornerstones of their interactions. But she didn't realize she grew up in a dysfunctional family. Dysfunction runs deep in families. However, in the midst of Amirah's life unraveling, she felt a spiritual pull that set her on a path of seeking and understanding.

Like many of us, we experience death as a child, are around it, and are exposed to it, but most don't become communicators with the dearly departed. What set the ball rolling for Amirah was a trip to Egypt she felt a calling to take. On that trip, she would be surrounded by people she didn't know in a foreign land who were on a mission to save her life. She would later understand that she was transported far away from her body and back again.

This is Amirah's story of her near-death experience.

If you or someone you know is struggling with the darkness of life or has experienced the grief of death and want to find the answers, I encourage you to listen to this inspiring episode.

Subscribe to Grieving Voices to hear a Part 2 conversation with  Dr. Amirah! She will be back for another episode where we will dive deeper into spiritual practices, sharpening our tool of intuition, all things energy + more!

  • Q&A | When Is It Too Soon To Start a New Relationship?

    This week's episode is about:

    • Learning when you will be ready for a new relationship.
    • Learning why awareness, understanding, and communication are vital to building relationships.
    • I share what it was like when my mom started another relationship after my dad died.
    • Do Grief Differently™️ and YouMap® support grievers in setting themselves up for success in future relationships by preparing their hearts for love again.

The question of when it is too soon hinges on various factors, including the individual's grieving process, emotional readiness, and the extent of healing.

There's no universally applicable timeline, as everyone's journey through grief is unique.

The journey toward a new connection is not just about moving forward; it's about looking inward to address any lingering emotional loose ends from the past. This entails acknowledging and completing the emotional unfinished business, whether they are unexpressed feelings, unresolved conflicts, or unfulfilled needs. Such self-awareness and emotional closure pave the way for a healthier foundation to build a new relationship.

By taking the time to heal and learn from past experiences, individuals can ensure that their future relationships are characterized by authenticity, understanding, and the potential for a genuine, lasting connection.

Grief recovery emerges as the essential compass guiding individuals through this complex emotional landscape. It's a process of introspection and growth that paves the way for a healthier future.

  • 6 Tips For Getting Out of a Slump

In this week's episode, we dive deep into self-improvement and personal growth.

    Today's episode is about:

    • Exploring the dynamic between motivation and determination and why determination is often more potent in overcoming challenges (including grief).
    • Discovering the key differences between these concepts and how harnessing determination can lead to more success and empowerment.
    • In this episode, I also share with you how determination played a role in me becoming the person I am today.

Motivation and determination play vital roles in the pursuit of success, but determination is often considered more critical in the long run. While motivation can provide the initial drive and enthusiasm to start a journey, it tends to fluctuate over time and may not always be present. In this episode, I explore motivation and determination and the role of each in our lives, even in times of challenge.

On the other hand, determination embodies a relentless commitment to achieving goals, even in the face of adversity and challenges. Determination keeps individuals going when the initial excitement fades away, and obstacles threaten to derail their progress. Determination fuels resilience, perseverance, and unwavering focus, pushing people to overcome setbacks and stay on track toward their objectives.

While motivation can ignite the spark, determination keeps the fire burning. Combining both elements can be a powerful approach, as motivation can be the catalyst for building determination, creating a resilient mindset that propels individuals toward their dreams and the will to reach the other side of adversity.

  • The Grief of Burnout and Not Knowing Yourself

In today's episode, I will cover the other two pillars of YouMap®: Skills and Personality.  If you listened to last week's episode, I discuss the first two pillars of YouMap®, which are the Strengths and Values.

This week, I'm diving deeper into:

    • The difference between Preferred and Least Preferred Skills
    • The 6 Personality Interest Types (as they relate to career/life satisfaction)
    • The 3 Levels of Coaching

According to Korn Ferry International, 85 percent of skills can be transferred from one job to another.

This means the expertise, knowledge, and abilities gained in a specific role can be applicable and valuable in a different job or industry. However, many individuals might not fully recognize the potential of their transferable skills, often underestimating how their existing competencies can be leveraged in a new position they have not previously experienced.

Understanding and acknowledging these transferable skills are crucial in maximizing career opportunities and navigating job transitions successfully. Emphasizing transferable skills can empower job seekers to present themselves as versatile and adaptable candidates to employers, expanding their possibilities in the ever-changing job market.

Why does this all matter? Considering we spend the majority of our lives in our careers/work life, isn't it more satisfying when you're doing something you enjoy and maximizing everything about you that is expressed through your YouMap®?

  • The Grief of Not Knowing Your Strengths and Values

Grief puts this veil over your face. When you're bogged down emotionally, it can feel like a chore to make it through the day, much less connect emotionally with others (or yourself). Once you address the emotional weight, little by little, you see potential where you saw heartbreak. You feel connection where you once felt disconnected. And you recognize the only limits placed on yourself, or others are those imposed by the mind.

*This episode is connected to last week's episode, which is titled Ep. 150, What It's Like Working With Me*

In today's episode, you will learn:
    * How YouMap was the missing piece in finding the language for who I am and what I offer, but more importantly, in my work with clients and understanding them better.
    * How YouMap can help you find your purpose in life.
    * Grief Recovery and Youmap are a beautiful marriage of transformation.

Did you know that only 1 in 33 million people will have the exact same five strengths as you?  Yes, that is a fact.

In this episode, I discuss what the YouMap® is and how It helps individuals understand their unique strengths, values, interests, and personality traits and guides their career choices and life goals accordingly. By clarifying these aspects, individuals can make more informed decisions and find greater fulfillment in their personal and professional lives - thereby experiencing less (self-inflicted and unnecessary) grief.

If you are looking for YouMap® Coach to help you discover your unique gifts and skills and how you can show up to the world, I am here to help and guide you.

  • What It's Like Working With Me

In today's episode, you will learn what I bring to the table when choosing to work with me. I use aspects of my YouMap® to illustrate what's in it for you as a client and more.

Today, there are far more options for grief support than were available five, ten years ago, and beyond. There are several training programs online that one can take to work with grievers, hang up their virtual shingles, and work with clients in exchange for money. However, not all grief coaches have done their own deep dive into their past losses and trauma, making it challenging to know who to trust, where to look, or where to start.

By the end of today's episode, you will learn the specific skill set I bring to my work with clients and why it matters. Being the only certified grief specialist (who continues to apply the tools and framework I share with clients) and YouMap® coach worldwide does have its perks. Want to learn what they are? • Q&A | My Son's Death is the Elephant in the Room

Today's Q&A is a great reminder for all of us that we express our grief differently and in our own timing. However, when emotions run high, and the loss seems unbearable, as is often the case with child loss, more grief will often add to the pain and heartbreak within family dynamics.

We must remember that 75% of how we respond to life's challenges is learned by age three. By age fifteen, we've learned the remaining 25% of how to respond to life's challenges. These are impressionable ages, and the lessons in our youth are what we fall back on as adults.

So when life hands a family a devastating loss, everyone brings their unique perspective and feelings about the person the family, as a whole, is grieving. This is why family dynamics have the potential to create more togetherness or more grief and separation in the wake of devastating loss.

However, less would be taken so personally if we all took the time to understand our loved ones better and honored each individual where they're at in their grief experience.
