On October 28, 2003 the host of this podcast, Kevin Lowe, saw the faces of his family for the last time. Upon waking from a surgery that saved his life with the removal of a brain tumor Kevin was left completely blind.

It's been a long road, these past 19 years, but along the way Kevin has time and time again proved to himself that even without sight, this world is still beautiful.

Inside of today's episode Kevin is unpacking the way in which he sees people today, while at the same time explaining how it feels to not know what his family looks like 19 years later.

Kristen Girard is a beautiful woman with a divine artistic ability who is here to share her story in addition to her work as a Luminary Artist.

Suffering from severe depression that led to Kristen's lowest point where she was left contemplating suicide we begin to understand the depth to Kristen's story.

But Kristen Girard would find a way out of that dark place and would ultimately discover her higher self. That higher self would lead Kristen on a path in life that combines art with a divine gift that is absolutely out of this world.

As a Florida resident, Hurricane Ian has been top of mind for the past couple of weeks. And in its aftermath I have been left to truly count my blessings. This is what prompted the topic discussed inside of today's solo episode.

I had something happen while caught up in my own despair that reminded me that it was time I shift my focus away from me and my problems and start focusing on all the others who are suffering so much more than me.

Today's topic goes far deeper than just the effects of a hurricane. It speaks to the many aspects of life in which we are faced with our own trials and tribulations, but all the while understanding that there is someone out there who has it worse than us.

Ultimately, today is all about reminding us to count our blessings and to shift our attention away from ourselves and towards others who are struggling too.

Rich LaMonica is a 22-year veteran of the United States Army who was deployed on multiple occasions in support of the Global War on Terrorism.

He retired in 2015 and went through an entire year of self-reflection as he transitioned to civilian life again.
