Grounds Patrol - A Newgrounds Creators' Podcast

If you've heard of Newgrounds, you've probably heard of Madness Combat, which means you've probably heard of Krinkels. And if you've heard of Krinkels, OR Newgrounds, you've probably heard of The-Swain. So you might have heard of their epic 6-year game project, Madness: Project Nexus 2. Well it's nearing completion, and the two Newgrounds staples are here and ready to talk about it. If you're willing to hear them out. Ya heard?

PLEDGE TO THE KICKSTARTER BY JUNE 7TH!

Welcome to another Grounds Patrol creator interview! This episode we talk to Mikkel Mainz, head of animation studios Skald and Sun Creature and creator of the Tales of Alethrion series.

Tales of Alethrion is an animated fantasy series that tells the stories of seasoned adventurers and their run-ins with an ancient and mysterious treasure map. On its YouTube channel (boasting over 100K subs) you’ll find the original short film that started it, the entirety of Season 1, a bunch of short mini-arcs and tons of behind-the-scenes content. And we’ll all be treated to a kickass Season 2 if we can slay an epic beast of our own - the Alethrion Season 2 Kickstarter.

I got to catch Mikkel after a 3-hour marathon Youtube Live event and pick his brain about Alethrion, fantasy storytelling, DnD and a whole lot more. Enjoy the interview and consider pledging to make Season 2 a reality.

BY THE WAYYY: Grounds Patrol now has a public email address! Send your thoughts, feelings and glorious praise for this episode to [email protected] and I might likely read out your message in the next episode. For now, no ads or plugs for your stuff - that’ll come later.

Also, shoutout to @NinjaMuffin, Grounds Patrol’s new producer. Thanks to his work this podcast will chug on like the well-stoked coal train it is. And I won’t have to sweat at 3am because I haven’t found anyone to come onto the show yet. Haha. Ha.

RealFaction has been around Newgrounds for about as long as one possibly can be, and his mark on the community is substantial. Pixel Day, the Art-Inspired Music Contest, you name it - oh. and he has two bands, three(?) podcasts and a game in progress. I got to talk with him about just dang near all of it.

PsychoGoldfish has been one of Newgrounds's head programmers since the early days. He's been the driving force behind much of how the site works today - we're talking NG Chat, in-game medals, and lending a hand towards the Art Portal and the Forums, just to name a few examples.

Now, following a recent thread in the forums regarding the possible removal of an iconic Newgrounds feature, he comes on the show to talk shop. Our conversation starts with the thread but goes on to encompass Newgrounds's entire identity as a creator hub in the internet's past, present and future.

If you'd like to read up on this thread yourself, here's the link:

Welcome to GROUNDS PATROL's first creator interview! Troisnyx is a long-time and *very* prolific Newgrounds creator - she releases audio, art and in-depth personal news posts and, on top of that, finds time to be a dedicated audio mod as well.

***NOTE: This episode I forgot to shout-out NG musician WaterFlame for letting us use his song "Below" as the podcast's theme! We'll make it up to him by shouting him out at the end of literally every episode from now on. (Hey Will, maybe don't forget to do this on the first episode. Cmon.

It's the first episode of GROUNDS PATROL! Thanks for choosing to listen to this one, it means you're getting in on the ground floor (lol) of what's sure to be a great big long podcast thing. Find out how February fared portal-wise, then learn a bit of Newgrounds history with a little spiel on Turd of the Week. Who knows, maybe this podcast will end up with that award someday.
