Today I use my 20 years physiotherapy experience to shed some light on the subject of exercising with a shoulder injury.
You see, shoulder injuries become increasingly more common after the age of 40. However, not all shoulder injuries are the same... you may have a rotator cuff problem, frozen shoulder, arthritis... the list goes on.
So is it safe to carry on exercising with a shoulder injury? And if you carry on what's the best way to adjust your exercise routine to minimise the risk of aggravating your shoulder problem?
We discuss all this in this episode...

Today we explore the situations when the push to get on the fitness path comes predominantly from the partner, not from the person who needs it.
I reflect on many of our experiences with this type of scenario. I discuss whether this can work and give my recommendations for when your partner needs help in the fitness department but is reluctant to do anything about it.

There is no secret our bodies change as we age…
Physical activities that used to be a “piece of cake” may now seem to be more of a challenge.
But there are plenty of less obvious changes that you may not be aware of that lurk under the surface waiting for you to take one wrong step to come out.
The good news is overwhelming amounts of research tells us that as long as we stay active and keep fit we can remain healthy, happy and functional for many decades to come regardless of our age.
However, you cannot treat a body that passed the “40” mark the same way you treat a 20 year old. And the further you get past 40 the more the body is affected by these changes.
With that in mind there are some considerations for you to take into account when exercising so that first of all you stay safe on our fitness journey, and second get the maximum results for your effort.
In this podcast we discuss exactly that. The factors you need consider when working on your fitness after the age of 40.

So you have heard of the many benefits of strength training and you're thinking of starting on this path. But you might be hesitating because you don't want to bulk up and look like an "Arnie" with massive bulging biceps and chest muscles.
In this episode I break down and explain if you have a risk of bulking up when you start resistance or strength training. I give you an easy-to-understand scientific justification for my answer. I also pay special attention to women over 40 because most of the time it's this demographic that ask this question.

In this episode I reveal the 3 strategies we use with our members to help them overcome procrastination and return to their fitness routine after the festive season or any long break.
If you took a few weeks off during the Christmas break and especially if you managed to gain a couple of kilos over that time (this happens often) you may struggle to get back on-track when it comes to pre-Christmas fitness habits. Your body and mind rebels and you know you mind end up in pain after that first session back. Especially if you're over 40, your body doesn't respond to changes as well as it used to.
So how do you overcome this stalling? The good news is there are 3 relatively simple ways to making the transition as smooth as possible... and avoid pain (both mental and physical). These are the strategies we use in our training facility. Listen to the podcast to find out what they are.

What separates those people who set and achieve their fitness goals successfully in 2024 and those who don't?
To our surprise our recent member survey revealed some very clear and for many unexpected results. We tried to compare those people who managed to get to their goals in 2023 and those who really struggled. The objective of this survey was to find out what factors set these 2 groups apart so we can help the less successfully members achieve their goals by implementing these "success" factors.
The results of the survey can be boiled down to one single most significant factor... something that the more successful members did and the less successful overlooked. Listen to the podcast to find out what it is and set your 2024 health goals on a path to success.

Back pain is very common. And obesity or being overweight is probably even more common... Especially when we talk about people over 40. So very often the 2 problems co-exist. And not only they co-exist, they compound each other.
You see, back pain may stop you from doing many types of physical exercises so therefore, it makes it difficult to exercise enough to burn calories and start losing weight. But since you struggle to lose excess weight, that adds more stress to your spine and makes your back pain worse. It's a vicious cycle. So how do you break this cycle... All will be revealed in this episode of our podcast.
