This no doubt has been one of the most controversial topics in the fitness industry for some time. We are going to use the latest medical research to cut through the clutter of "opinions" and "hear-says" with a goal of finding the truth. Should you be running if you are over 40 years of age? Listen to the podcast to discover...

We created a couple of videos in the past on this topic which proved to be extremely popular on our social media channels so we thought it would be a great idea to do a podcast on the topic too.
In my experience as a physiotherapist at least 4 out of 5 knee injuries over the age of 40 have at least something to do with a wear-and-tear process or arthritis (whether the patient is aware of it at that moment or not).
So what do you do when you are trying to get fit and strengthen your leg muscles... yet almost anything you do for your legs hurts your knee. You cannot do squats, you cannot do lunges.
So where do you start? How do you overcome this challenge?
Here is my take on the topic. And I used this method to guide my patients and fitness members from not being able to climb a flight of stairs due to knee pain to doing lunges pain-free and in some cases even running.

This time we discuss the topic of taking breaks. Letting your body recover while training is an essential ingredient for making progress and hitting your goals. At the end of the day strength training is literally causing micro-damage to your muscle fibres. And you get stronger when these muscle fibres repair in a stronger position. So allowing time for the repair to take place is a must. But the questions of how long for and how often you should be resting can be quite controversial. We reveal the advice we give to our client at Growing Younger.
We always justify our opinion with up-to-date research and knowledge of human physiology.
