The last few days the news has been dominated by the Phala Phala saga and a lot of political uncertainty, but today's economic growth figures are going to be much more interesting. The economy shrank in the second quarter after the shocks of the floods in KwaZulu-Natal, a prolonged strike in the gold mining industry and severe load shedding in June. Economists expect the data to show that economic activity recovered in the third quarter. The Bureau of Economic Research predicts 0.7% growth.
