February 25, 2025 Episode 223 – Gary Con Pre-Prequal And Solasta 2
This week the Demo for Solasta 2 came out and the guys all had to try it out, since it’s an incredible Dungeons & Dragons 5E video game. It’s just a demo so there is still a lot of changes to come, but the guys talk about the good and bad of it.
The guys are just a month away from their trip to Gary Con and they finally have their schedule for the event worked out. This includes for some of them a chance to game with Zeb Cook and even Heidi Gygax. GDM Christopher will even get his first chance to play some 1st Edition Dungeons & Dragons. He’s preparing by playing his first game of Shadowdark.
Hasbro got their quarterly earnings and decided that they are going to double down on digital media going forward. What does this mean for Dungeons & Dragons? The Grumpy Dungeon Masters don’t know exactly, but they speculate as usual. Lets see where this goes.

This week there wasn’t any crazy D&D news so the guys just chat about random topics. GDM Christopher regales the group with a tale of Adventurers League that is sure to entertain. It involves a room full of undead, some high level characters, and some low level players.
GDM Kristian takes us on a deep dive through Kickstarter Zine Month. Nobody knew that was a thing, but we all do now! If you’re looking for some awesome, cheap, and simple modules or ideas for your campaigns look into zines!
GDM Jay dives into a new ecology of the Clockwork Horror. While it doesn’t involve any clockwork it does involve plenty of horror. These guys are collectively dangerous to entire worlds despite being a low challenge rating.

This week Grumpy Dungeon Masters are looking at the second part of the Unearthed Arcana. It includes a subclass for the rogue, sorceror, and the wizard. Lets just say the guys get a bit grumpy about the Spellfire sorceror subclass. GDM Dan just wants it to be a new Spellfire card game.

The Grumpy Dungeon Masters got some play-test materials for the 80’s Adventures for 5E. For those not in the know, it’s a fantasy setting throwback to the 1980’s. Action Heroes, Greedy Bankers, and Hair Metal all the way. The guys take a brief look at the play-test material just to wet the appetite.
GDM Christopher & Kristian look at some more of the monsters coming in the 5.5 Monster Manual. This week it’s the Fey and Abberations. Definitely some serious changes coming with re-classifications of many famous monster types.
GDM Dan finds another really strange ecology. This week it’s the Sussurus. An undead hating beastie that makes droning noises and will chase you down for farting in it’s general direction.

January 21, 2025 Episode 218 – Exploring the Dark World of Monstrosities and Undead
More new monsters from the upcoming edition of the Dungeons and Dragons Monster Manual. WotC released a video talking about the undead so we are talking about the undead also. Apparently there is now a Revenant the size of a house. Well, actually, it is a house. A house Revenant.
Also some new monstrosities and some of the changes to them and their classification. Apparently Kenku and now monstrosities. GDM Jay has always thought that about them. Also Owlbears become even more terrifying.
GDM Jay goes into the history of a long forgotten game. Dragon Dice. A game created by TSR that helped bankrupt the company. The guys are giddy with glee when they find out the game is still being made. Even more so when they find out that novels exist on it. Expect more to come about from this discovery.

Wizards of the Coast released a video talking about the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons 5.5 Monster Manual. Naturally the guys have to give their take on things. While the details are sparse the guys still have opinions about things.
GDM Dan takes a look at the “ecology” of the Dragonborn. The Grumpy Dungeon Masters were all a bit surprised to find out that the Dragonborn are actually much older than originally thought.
GDM Dan also walks the guys through the story of the Oblex. Apparently this monster was created by a kid who got to work for WotC for 1 day. This monster is one of the better monsters the guys have seen in a while.

This week the guys talk pro-wrestling. To bad GDM Christopher’s wife isn’t here for it.
Also they talk about the new Dungeons and Dragons pinball machine from Stern Pinball titled, Dungeons & Dragons: The Tyrants Eye. Gonna be honest. This pinball machine is pretty sweet. Hopefully the guys will get to play it at some point.
Also GDM Jay makes the argument that Beholder’s are just birds. He and GDM Dan both apparently unknown to each other studied up on the ecology of the beholder and found bunches of fun new information.
The guys also take a stab at a website that has links to every 2nd edition monster. This turns into great fun as they randomly hit the lottery.

It’s Christmas Week and the guys have been busy. We’re posting a bit late, but here comes the pod! GDM Jay, Christopher, and Kristian are joined by long time friend of the show and Grumpy Dungeon Master Bruce the Beer Bandit.
GDM Jay brings us the Ecology of the Osquip this week. Who care’s about some giant 6 legged rat? Wizards and Warlocks do apparently since they can be familiars.
Also since it’s Christmas time the guys have to talk about the Badvent calendar. It’s an advent calendar that’s so bad the guys actually want copies of it. Who doesn’t want malformed lead dice and miniatures with extra limbs?
