Grunts in Appalachia

The Grunts spent the weekend in North Carolina at the Mudbugs for Maddy music festival and had a wonderful time.  In this episode Brandon and John discuss the the musician lineup, Appalachian culture and how music can really bring people together.  The food was great, the music was superb and the company was fun.

For Grunts Gear and Gadgets we discuss, and you should pay attention, as to when you purchase a poncho for inclement weather and how it will effect your outdoor activities.  

We hit a couple current events and how they will impact you in the very near future.

Grunts in Appalachia out! 

This week Johns wife Tinia Creamer sits down with the Grunts and talks Appalachia.  The thing that you need to know is that Tinia being married to one of us for almost 20 years doesn't tolerate anything she feels is inappropriate.  

On the serious note though Tinia grew up in the heart of Appalachia and her raising is for the storybooks.  Not wanting to give anything away this on that you need to hear about her daddy that was 40 years older than her mother and had over 15 children.  Raised in a trailer with no running water and an outhouse in the 90's is something that isnt common place anymore and its a story worth hearing. 

For Grunts Gear and Gadgets we target Tinia with her mothers day tactical sandals and we just have a good time telling you about them in a humorous way.

Appalachian ales and tales highlights a moonshine distillery in Gatlinburg, TN called Great Smokey Moonshine.  We choose a very different flavor and had some fun with it as well.

So last week we had a dude named Rogillio in the background.  It just so happens that Rogillio has a real name and its Tony Mancini.  Tony has a lot to say about growing up in Appalachia and we enjoyed having him as a guest.  There has never been a guest that can roll with the punches like Tony and that was great!

Tony is a very accomplished man, restaurant owner for 2 decades a college football player and overall awesome human being we couldn't be happier to have him on the program. 

The laughs kept rolling on this episode but its not for those that are easily offended so beware for you have been told.

We had the unique pleasure of sitting down with an actual Doctor this week, Dr. David Denning. His people know him as Denrock or Dave and what a brave man to sit down with us on our program.  

Dave fit right in with us we talked about Johns 40th birthday party the night before, Brandons new puppy "Snacks" getting an Apple pod thing to track his movements (you can also watch the naming of snacks on Youtube "Grunts Go Shooting GIA Virginia Trip", Brandons new grill that he cooked a 4 pound tomahawk steak on for us to eat during the podcast all the while the table was covered in cheap beer.

We had some spectators for this one and you will hear them in the background as Rogillio runs his move a little as well. 

Stick around until the end of this one to hear some behind the scenes stuff that goes on in the hospital.  Dave was very candid and honest about some medical personnel and what they do while off work having access to things that most of us do not. It was not a hit piece by any means it was just very interesting to hear some of his perspective on the entire thing.

This week the Grunts went remote in Mechanicsville, VA with MOS Tactical.  William, the founder and CEO sat down with us in his shop and we spoke about his American made gear with some great banter thrown in there as well. MOS Tactical is a smaller boutique style company with 1st rate products.  A lot of love and care goes into each product that gets shipped out to their customers. 

We were fortunate enough to have our producer Yiorgi with us to video and take some pictures this week so thank you to him. You will be able to check out that video on YouTube at Grunts in Appalachia.

This was a great weekend with some adventuring and another amazing hotel room stay.  We can just say that our sleeping experience wasn't very fancy.

This week Johns sewer pipe collapsed and we had to dig it all up and replace the line from inside the crawl hole to the septic tank so the poop stories just kinda rolled into this episode.  

We also hit on some topics from the bird flu and the millions of chickens that had to be put down to why we believe marijuana should be completely legalized across the board. 

We also spoke on the NCAA basketball national championship and called out who we believe will win.

Grunts in Appalachia out!

This week the Grunts sit down with Ray Frye, owner of one of the most unique bars ever Taps. The bar is covered in military themed items and everything Star Wars. I guess you could say it’s a Space Force hangout. Ray served in the US Army during the first Gulf War as a combat medic and has a huge sense of duty to his country and his brothers in arms.

Ray has an amazing event coming up called Brewgrass on May 28th with four bands and brews aplenty. He gave your favorite grunts tickets to be at the event and gave us permission to do another podcast on location during the event with anyone that wants to sit down with us so stay tuned for that wildness. Here’s the awesome part y’all, he also gave us 2 tickets to do a giveaway with so stay tuned as we figure out how we are going to get these two tickets out there for two lucky people.

We had a pretty wild one this week.  Recording Remotely from Taps at Heritage Station in Downtown Huntington, WV.  

The rundown.  David Williams AKA Alligator Jackson is a southern rock loving independent news reporter for the Huntington Tri-state area. On this episode the Gator was a little tired because he was up late night the night before when 40 rounds were popped off across the street from his home.  But we hit a plethora of great topics this week.  From men transitioning into women and dominating in sports to the food culture in Huntington we hit a lot in between. Gator surprised us with some personal knowledge that kept on coming up on this episode that you will have to listen to find out about.

For Appalachia Ales and Tales we went with the Founders Rabeus tapped on the Nitrous.  A delicious blend of raspberries and beer come together to make the most epic lawn mowing beer out there.

For the Wellness Check we discus that opiate crisis and how it has now hit West Point with 6 cadets overdosing while on Spring Break in Florida.
