  • GSMC Baseball Podcast Episode 680: MLBPA agrees to Ban the Shift
In arguably the most shocking event to come out of these slow-moving CBA negotiations, the Major League Baseball Players Association has agreed to rid itself of the over-shift that has impeded hitters for years. This move is incredibly shocking as both sides have already agreed to incredible changes already. The National League, for example, will add the designated hitter to is list of positions. Patrick breaks down this and what else has been happening in the sport. Following the CBA talk, Patrick then breaks down dome potential post-lockout trades that could really shake up the power structure in MLB. Trades like Luis Castillo to the Los Angeles Angels, or Oakland going all-in on a hard-reset. To end today's show Patrick takes a look at many teams' outlook on third-basemen for the next five years. • GSMC Baseball Podcast Episode 679: A Sad Day for Baseball
Kevin starts the episode by discussing the fact that the MLB and MLBPA could not come to an agreement before the deadline to cancel regular season games. The first two series of the season have been cancelled and Kevin believes it is just a precursor to the first month of the season being cancelled. If we are lucky "opening day" will be May 1st. Kevin then talks college baseball. There was not a ton of movement in the top 25 from last week and the top 10 took care of business. There are multiple top 25 match ups this weekend that will be fun to watch. Kevin also gives his top pitchers to keep and eye on early in the NCAA season. Kevin wraps up the show by sharing his "Most Underrated" team heading into 2022. Whether its due to a small market, or underwhelming traits there are multiple guys who are playing great baseball currently being overlooked. Some of these guys could be the difference in a pennant run for 2022. • GSMC Baseball Podcast Episode 678: CBA Deadline and What you Need to Know
TODAY IS THE DAY! If the players and owners cannot come to an agreement today, then there will be games missed. Patrick spends the first part of today's show breaking down what needs to be known about the CBA. These two sides are far from close, and it does not look like there will be a deadline, and Paddy tells everyone what to expect. After that Paddy takes a look at two of the most important people to the MLBPA and Free Agency. First Patrick talks to the first executive director of the MLPA Marvin Miller. Under MIller the MLBPA grew to become one of the most powerful unions in the United States, and he was able to help create Free Agency. Paddy also talks about Jim "Catfish" Hunter, who was the first "big-money free agent", and is the only person to have their number retired by the Athletic's since the 1920s. • GSMC Baseball Podcast Episode 677: It's "Deadline" Day!
Kevin starts the episode by breaking down the update in negotiations that have taken place over the past 48 hours. Both sides met on three different occasions on Sunday. There was a brief sense of optimism on Sunday morning when a report came out that that sides were "close" but that was quickly debunked by multiple other outlets. Kevin then talks multiple trades over the past 4 years that could come back to haunt the teams that gave up "prospects". The Pirates will debut SS Oneil Cruz who was acquired in 2017 at the deadline for a rental player. Rays prospect Curtis Mead is another name who was dealt in 2019 to keep an eye on this summer. Kevin wraps up the show by counting down to #1 in the Top MLB Players of All-Time. #1 should be no surprise with Babe Ruth taking home the honors. The Top 5 also included Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Ty Cobb, and Ted Williams. What are your thoughts on this list?
