  • GSMC Baseball Podcast Episode 640: George Steinbrenner Oral History
With this lack of progress with CBA negotiations between the MLBPA and MLB Patrick turns toward George Steinbrenner for guidance. Just kidding, but Patrick does take a look at the man who helped shape baseball into what we know it as today. The man who is the reason the the world was robbed of seeing Ken Griffey Jr. in a Yankee uniform. The man that fired and rehired 20 managers in his first 23 years of owning the team, and the man who helped bring 7 championships to New York. Patrick looks at the suspension, an dhis life outside of baseball as well. After the oral history of George Steinbrenner, Patrick gives his thoughts on some players that may need to prove something to the baseball world this upcoming season. Patrick gives his takes as to why these players have something to prove. To end today's show, Patrick starts to re-grade the 2015 Draft class going from the Diamondbacks-Guardians. • GSMC Baseball Podcast Episode 639: American League Holiday Wish Lists
Kevin starts the episode by getting into the holiday spirit. Kevin starts with the AL East and breaks down the top three players on every teams wish list when we return on the other side of the work stoppage. The Red Sox, Yankees, and Blue Jays are all still looking for big-time upgrades before next season. Kevin then discusses the AL Central. The White Sox are the favorite once again but still need upgrades at some key spots for 2022. Carlos Rodon would be a welcome addition back but it will not be without competition from other teams in the division. Kevin wraps up the show talking about the AL West and how the power in this division is starting to turn. The Astros should be the favorite once again by the Rangers and the Mariners are looking to make their moves starting this offseason. • GSMC Baseball Podcast Episode 638: 2020 vs 2021 All-MLB Matchup
For years now, mostly the last three, baseball fans have pondered which All-MLB to win in a series. Patrick takes this hypothetical and takes the rosters of the 2020 and the 2021 All-MLB teams and pins them against each other. In this battle of supremacy, Patrick goes through both lineups and reads why each player deserved to be there. Unfortunately, the site that Patrick uses to make this content does not allow for the DH so the abilities of Shohei Ohtani and Nelson Cruze are very limited. This series is insane going all 7 games. Patrick has not even been convinced the better team of the 2 won. This series is full of series saving hits, amazing pitching performances, and big leads that evaporate in less than an inning. This matchup has everything Patrick was hoping for and more. • GSMC Baseball Podcast Episode 637: Two Different Baseballs?!?
Kevin starts the episode by discussing the recent report that MLB used two different styles of baseball this past season. The pandemic led to shortages with the "new" baseball, which then made MLB use "juiced" balls from previous inventory. The problem with this is that no one knew this was happening or which balls were used in which games. The integrity of the sport is certainly even more in question. Kevin then gives an update on the managerial searches for both the A's and Met's. There are some candidates who are interviewing for both opportunities but it looks like Buck Showalter is the lead candidate for the Mets and the A's are looking to stay internally. Kevin also talks about the MiLB rule 5 draft that took place. Kevin wraps up the show by talking about the top remaining free agents available and where they could possibly sign when the labor dispute comes to a close. There are plenty of impact players still without a home for 2022. He breaks down the timing and reasoning for each of the first eight dating back to the 1970s. Kevin then gives his thoughts on the current lockout. • GSMC Baseball Podcast Episode 632: CBA Ends Today
THE CBA EXPIRES TODAY! Don't worry just yet and Patrick explains why the CBA expires on 11:59 EST, December 1, 2021, and why it is not a major deal if the MLBPA and MLB cannot come to terms before the deadline. But, before Patrick can get to that Patrick updates everyone on who all has signed. Due to the CBA set to expire free agents have been drooping like fly's this past week. The Texas Rangers alone have put over half a BILLION dollars into their new middle infield of Marcus Semian and Correy Seager. Javvy Baez is with the Detroit Tigers, Max Scherzer has signed with the Mets. Patrick breaks down all of those deals and takes a look at the best remaining free agent players left. With guys like Trevor Story, Carlos Correa, Freddie Freeman, and so many other talented players still available it is likely that the record of 2.1 billion in FA money given out will be surpassed. Patrick talks about all of this and more on today's new episode.
