The fatal shooting unfolded on February 25, 2016, in Montgomery, Alabama, culminating in the death of a 58-year-old man near his home during a stop-and-frisk attempt initiated by Aaron Cody Smith. Initially charged with murder, Smith was indicted by a grand jury in 2016, with his trial taking place in late 2019.
