Supplement capsules are popular and marketed as essential for good health, but many experts say a balanced diet can provide most nutrients without them. This means their benefits might be overhyped. However, some supplements are important for reproductive health. For example, folic acid helps prevent birth defects, and omega-3 fatty acids can improve fertility. It's important to talk to a doctor before taking any supplements to avoid possible negative effects.
In this episode of Gulabi Sambad, we discussed nutrition with Dr. Aruna Uprety, a Public Health Expert. Dr. Uprety highlighted the nutritional benefits of locally available foods and explained when taking supplements becomes necessary.

Breastfeeding is crucial in Nepal for the health and development of infants, providing essential nutrients and antibodies that boost immunity and reduce the risk of infections. Despite its benefits, breastfeeding practices face challenges in the country. Cultural beliefs, lack of awareness, and inadequate support for breastfeeding mothers contribute to suboptimal breastfeeding rates. The government and various organizations are working to promote breastfeeding through awareness campaigns and policies to improve maternal and child health. However, more efforts are needed to ensure widespread adoption of optimal breastfeeding practices across all regions of Nepal. Highlighting all these, in this episode of the podcast Gulabi Sambad, we have discussed the importance and current status of breastfeeding in Nepal.

During crises like natural disasters or conflicts, sexual harassment increases vulnerability among displaced populations, especially impacting women, children, and LGBTQ+ individuals. It worsens trauma and mental health challenges. Reporting is difficult due to fear, distrust, and communication disruptions. Effective responses need coordinated efforts from humanitarian groups, local authorities, and communities to create safe spaces, promote gender equality, and ensure accountability through clear legal frameworks.
During the monsoon season, floods and landslides frequently occur across the country, forcing affected people to seek safer spaces for survival. However, this search for safety brings a high risk of sexual assault by both known and unknown individuals. Unfortunately, such incidents have occurred in the past, leaving many as victims of sexual harassment.
In this episode of Gulai Sambad, we address the risk of sexual harassment during crises and explore ways to mitigate these incidents. Our discussion includes interviewing Nirajan Khadka, SRHR-Technical Advisor at Plan International Nepal. Khadka highlights the risks of sexual harassment in crises and suggests possible measures to reduce these cases.

During crises like floods and landslides, managing menstrual health is challenging due to limited access to sanitary products, privacy, and hygiene facilities, along with increased health risks and stigma. Solutions include stockpiling supplies, providing emergency kits, setting up private and hygienic spaces in shelters, and educating communities. Policies should integrate menstrual health into disaster plans. Continuous monitoring and feedback help improve responses, ensuring the dignity and health of menstruating individuals during emergencies.
In this episode of Gulabi Sambad, we talk with Dr. Radha Poudel, a writer and advocate for Dignified Menstruation. Dr. Poudel discusses the challenges of managing menstrual health during crises and offers strategies to address these issues. She also highlights the essential menstrual hygiene products that should be included in emergency kits.

Infertility is when a person cannot get pregnant after a year of trying or cannot carry a pregnancy to term. It affects both men and women and can be caused by issues like hormone problems, genetic conditions, lifestyle factors, or certain medical conditions. Women may face infertility due to conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), endometriosis, or blocked fallopian tubes, while men might have low sperm count or poor sperm movement. Infertility can cause emotional stress and relationship problems. However, medical advances like in vitro fertilization (IVF) and other assisted reproductive technologies (ART) offer hope for those struggling with infertility, providing new ways to become parents.
In this episode of Gulabi Sambad, we interviewed Dr. Swasti Sharma, a renowned Gynecologist, Obstetrician, and Infertility Specialist. Dr. Sharma delves into infertility, discussing its causes, impacts, and treatment options.

Coping with the stress of SEE results can be tough for students. It's important to remember that these results don't define your worth or future. Talk to family, friends, or counselors about your feelings. Use relaxation techniques like mindfulness, meditation, and exercise to manage stress. Enjoying hobbies and activities outside of academics can also help. Remember, setbacks are temporary, and there are many ways to achieve success. We wish the best of luck to all students taking re-exam or preparing to take the exam next year.

During the summer, new moms need to focus on hygiene and comfort. Wearing loose, breathable clothing and staying in cool environments helps reduce sweating. Regular showers with mild soap keep the skin clean, and drinking plenty of water is important for hydration. To care for the perineal area, use a peri bottle with warm water after using the toilet, pat the area dry, and change pads often. If there are stitches, keep the area clean, use sitz baths, and avoid tampons until healed. Watch for signs of infection, like increased pain or unusual discharge. For breast care, clean nipples with water after breastfeeding, let them air dry, use breathable breast pads, and wear a supportive bra. Avoid overexertion, gradually ease into activities, eat a balanced diet, and keep regular healthcare appointments for a smooth recovery.
Highlighting all these, this episode of Gulabi Sambad includes a conversation with Dr. Ranjana Sah, a Gynecologist and Obstetrician.

Workplace harassment, including sexual and mental forms, harms employees' well-being and productivity. Sexual harassment involves unwanted advances or conduct of a sexual nature, causing trauma and job dissatisfaction. Mental harassment, or bullying, includes hostile behavior like verbal abuse and exclusion, leading to anxiety and low morale. Organizations can prevent this by having clear anti-harassment policies, regular training, and confidential reporting systems, along with supporting affected employees. Legal protections require employers to ensure a safe, respectful work environment. By fostering a positive workplace culture and thorough investigation processes, companies can protect their employees and comply with legal standards.
In this episode of Gulabi Sambad, we explore workplace harassment in Nepal. It starts with personal stories from the audience, offering a real look at the issue. We then interview Saroj Giri, an advocate who explains the laws against workplace harassment.

Teenage abortion and unsafe abortion practices in Nepal have severe consequences on physical, mental, social, and public health. Physically, unsafe abortions can lead to hemorrhage, infections, organ damage, and even death, while teenagers face higher risks of complications due to physical immaturity. Mentally, the psychological impact includes depression, anxiety, PTSD, and stigma-induced isolation. Socially, affected teenagers often face family and community rejection, disrupted education, and economic burdens from medical costs and loss of productivity. Legally, there are risks of criminal charges and exploitation in areas with restricted abortion laws. Public health consequences include increased maternal mortality and morbidity and a significant strain on the healthcare system. Mitigating these effects requires comprehensive sex education, improved access to reproductive health services, psychological support, and community programs to reduce stigma and support affected young women.
In this episode of Gulabi Sambad, we explore the issue of teenage abortion, unsafe abortion, and the consequences of frequently using contraceptive pills with Dr. Shree Prasad Adhikari, a Senior Gynecologist and Obstetrician, and Director at the Paropakar Maternity and Women’s Hospital, Thapathali.
