Can lasers help to combat hair loss? 

Tamim Hamid comes from a long line of medicine, but chose to enter the engineering world. However, he still had the instinct to want to help people.

Tamim was a NASA engineer, who invented a laser to measure thermoprotection of the shuttles outer shell upon re-entry to the Earth.

Lasers were invented in the 60's, and he learned about them in school in the 80's.

He then invented a new laser in silicon valley. He found a study on lasers & hair growth, which was recorded in 1965 and tested on mice, which showed that a certain frequency could stimulate hair to grow.

Lasers work differently depending on the setting and the frequency. Laser light can stimulate human tissue, specifically hair follicles, and it triggers the mitochondria in the bulge of the hair root. This can extend the anagen phase and stimulate growth in the papilla, along with strengthening the arrector pili muscle.

Tamim has now invented the Theradome helmet, which is FDA cleared.

Improving hair quality ~ How can we get the most out of supplements? 

Dr Rajesh (Rajendrasingh) Rajput is an international speaker, & IAT faculty member.

He often completes surgery pro bono for those who have suffered burns, cleft palate, leprosy and skin traumas. 

He has researched metabolism in the hair follicle, and monitored changes in hair growth, DHT levels and sensitivity.

Dr Rajesh has a patented cyclical supplementation routine, which has shown an improvement in hair growth of 30-40% +, along with an improvement in scalp and follicle health.

He shares his research on which vitamins can counteract each other, which are synergistic and which are antagonistic, and how intermittent nutrition can give the body time to absorb & process each nutrient.

Dr Rajesh believes that no nutrient can work alone, and that deficiencies are an indication of a problem within the whole system. We look at how smaller, preventative doses can work differently to larger doses used to treat deficiencies. We explore the concept of 'hidden hunger' due to the fact that there is a depleted level of nutrition in our current foods compared to years ago.

What is your hair trying to tell you? 

Shannel Watson is a Trichologist, with a clinic in Marylebone.

She is also a biomedical scientist, product creator, hair & beauty brand consultant who offers functional trichology & advanced diagnostics.

Shannel is an education consultant, who developed her own products and uses this experience to help to educate brands.

Enhancing hair ~ How to avoid damage with hair extensions 

Katy Grimshaw from Spectrum One began working in a salon at just 12 years old.

She now has her own salon with 16 stylists, and has set up her own brand of hair extensions, available to those in the industry, along with her own education.

Katy shares that around 70% of her salon's business is hair extensions, and she set up her own hair extensions business after being frustrated with the inconsistency of the quality of the hair from other brands. She wanted to make sure the quality of the hair was reliable.

 She constantly works with her client base to support & evolve what they offer, along with their education, which is HABIA accredited. 

We talk about how to make sure you choose the right method for you, and prevent damage to your own hair.

We also discuss hair loss solutions, and the affect of weight loss jabs on client's hair and what we are able to offer them.

Embracing your identity and heritage ~ Building a positive relationship with your hair type 

Jessica Parrish founded her brand, Shedid & Parrish, to make curly hair easy and a joy to look after.

Jessica is adopted and mixed race, so she gives her unique perspective on identity & why it's so important to who we are. Adopted to white parents in the 1970s at 10 days old, she had some challenges as a child in her environment.

There was noone to help her manage & understand her curly big hair. In her later years, she spent time in the U.S, where she found a lot more products for afro/ textured hair, but they were marketed based on skin tones, not hair types, and a lot of the products had toxic chemicals in.

She wanted to make things easier and more accessible for those with textured or curly hair with products ingredients that are good for the health of the haior, not just cosmetic.'

The importance of communication ~ from a former hostage negotiator 

Nigel Taberner is an award winning expert speaker, who joins me this week to discuss the importance of communication, and how we can build deep relationships with our clients.

Nigel joined the police at age 21, after re-sitting his exams to fulfil his dream to be able to help people and fight crime.

He became a D.I. in counterterrorism and was a hostage negotiator for over ten years, dealing with over 130 incidents successfully.

We discuss the traits of a good communicator, including listening, emotional intelligence, and what is needed to effectively relate to people in order to develop relationships.

Nigel explains how it is important to work out someone's currency and what is important to them in order to influence the outcomes.

Buying a hair piece ~ Everything you need to know 

Georgina Probert has female pattern alopecia, having had thinning hair since her teen years. She experienced Telogen Effluvium after the births of both her children, and her density has never returned. She began wearing toppers 9 years ago, and now offers consultations and fittings for hair toppers and wigs. She thinks it's important to try on lots of different types of wig to make sure you choose the best one for you.

We talk about cap sizes, how to measure and get a good fit, how to know if you are buying a legitimate brand and hair type, and that you are not being taken advantage of.

Georgina shares how she has even had customers who have been sold wigs as human hair, which have turned out not to be.

We also look at Remy hair- what is it? What is the difference? Why should you know where your hair is sourced and has the hair come from multiple sources?

Georgina also shares her tips on how & where you should get your hairpiece cut or coloured, and how to plan for if it goes wrong!

Talking to children about hair loss and cancer 

Lauren MacClain was diagnosed with breast cancer at 40, when her children were from 5-10 years old. Her and her husband wanted to find the best way to speak to their children about what would happen during her treatment, and found that the books that were available didn't quite explain different areas of treatment very well.

Lauren had to wait over the xmas period to get her biopsy results, which was a scary time. After having a mastectomy, they found that it had spread to one of her lymph nodes which meant she needed to have chemotherapy.

Lauren found out about scalp cooling whilst she was researching treatments and decided to try it, as she had been warned that the chemo she needed was very dose-dense and can cause permanent hair loss (PCIA). Because of this, she managed to retain around 50% of her hair, and it grew back quickly afterwards. 

She has now written 3 children's books explaining cold caps and chemotherapy treatment, to help families explain to their children what is going on in an easy way.

Blood testing for hair health 

Kate Knowler is a Nutritional therapist, phlebotomist & blood test interpreter in Fitzrovia, London.

She helps to support clients with accessing & interpreting blood tests, and helps practitioners with all things blood related.

After experiencing burnout herself, and finding that she was anaemic, she began to learn about nutrition.

We discuss blood testing, how it can be used, how to interpret results, and different nutrient levels and absorption.

Kate also shares how blood tests can be affected by different factors and what can skew results, along with which tests you may need to support healthy growing hair.
