A Liberal MP has quietly introduced a bill that would remove the 156-year-old requirement to swear an oath to the King as a condition of sitting in Parliament or a provincial legislature. Newly released documents show that Correctional Service Canada stopped Paul Bernardo from having his lawyer make a statement to the media as controversy swirled around the notorious killer’s transfer to a medium-security prison. Hamilton rock band Monster Truck is set to headline the Neighbourhood Block Party as part of next month’s Grey Cup celebrations. The Bank of Canada left its benchmark interest rate unchanged at 5.0 per cent on Wednesday amid signs of cooling in the economy and easing in inflation.

St. Lawrence Seaway workers walked off the job early Sunday morning, shutting down the multi-billion dollar shipping corridor between Lake Erie and Montreal that includes the Welland Canal. St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corp. issued a press release just after the midnight deadline set by Unifor saying the two sides were at an impasse. The Ontario NDP has ousted Hamilton City Centre MP Sarah Jama from their caucus, leaving her as an independent, while she fights censure from the Doug Ford government.
