Over the weekend, Defund the Police protests took place in various cities across the country. In Montreal, protesters toppled a statue of Sir John A. Macdonald. The legacy of Canada’s first Prime Minister includes the founding of the nation we know today as well as his part in the famine faced by Canada’s indigenous populations, and the creation of the infamous residential schools.
