Russia is now the first country to approve a coronavirus vaccine. The move is being met with skepticism and concern from the scientific community in Russia and across the globe. President Vladimir Putin, however, says the vaccine underwent the necessary tests and was shown to provide lasting immunity to the coronavirus, although Russian authorities have offered no proof to back up claims of safety or effectiveness.

Yesterday, the Canada-China Relations Committee began hearings. Gloria Fung of Canada-Hong Kong Link testified to the committee, describing an urgent need for Canada to help the people of Hong Kong and sanction Chinese officials.
