Burlington is the latest to join the growing list of Ontario municipalities that will start charging visitors a municipal accommodation tax. Norman was not invited to celebrations for the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews this week, a decision the 15-time major winner said he agreed with. Census data shows that Canadian incomes trended higher in 2020 everywhere except in Alberta and Newfoundland and Labrador, as millions benefited from pandemic supports. The agency reports that median after-tax household income was $73,000 in 2020, up 9.8 per cent compared to its last national survey five years earlier, partly driven by the losses of lower-paying jobs. The Bank of Canada increased its key interest rate by one percentage point Wednesday in the largest hike the country has seen in 24 years. Brace yourselves: Hamilton is suffering from a mysterious shortage of icing and cakes! Fallon Hewitt of the Hamilton Spectator joins us fresh from getting her 4th COVID-19 shot, to tell us what she has discovered. Royal LePage has cut its home price forecast for this year amid a series of aggressive interest rate hikes which have pushed up the cost of borrowing and cooled the demand for housing. The realtor had been forecasting that home prices across Canada would rise 15 per over the course of 2022, led by a 16.5 per cent increase in the GTA. But it now says that it expects prices in the GTA will only be up approximately three per cent by the fourth quarter of 2022. Its Canada-wide forecast calls for the average price of a home to be up about five per cent by the fourth quarter of 2022. Hamilton hospital staff have seen a rise in violence against them since the pandemic started, according to a new poll conducted for the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). The results of the Postmedia-Léger survey suggest Trudeau faces challenges in his continued electoral success: a majority of Canadian respondents disapprove of Justin Trudeau’s performance as prime minister and feel he is a divisive leader, with almost as many hoping he resigns before the next election, according to the new public opinion survey probing the legacy of Canada’s leader. "Late last month, Ford announced his picks for his new cabinet and parliamentary secretaries as he embarks on his second term as premier. Ford announced the largest roster of overpaid politicians in the province’s history. No less than 73 of 83 Progressive Conservative MPPs received special titles and pay raises. Four years ago, Ford appointed a cabinet of 20. Last month, his cabinet size grew to 30.” Did you notice that Rogers had an outage on Friday? Yeah, it was kind of a big deal. Now the Public Interest Advocacy Centre – a national not-for-profit corporation and a federally registered charity which has represented consumer interests in regulated services like telecommunications since 1976 – is calling for an inquiry from the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC). Hamilton’s longtime “Mayor of the Morning” has died, according to a statement from his family. Iconic CHML morning show host Paul Hanover, who began his radio career in the 1940s, died at the age of 97 on Monday. Bob Bratina joins us to remember Paul Hanover. A new survey suggests there is a strong relationship between a person's political perspective and their views on free speech in Canada. It's been three years since what used to be a staple of the political calendar — the annual summer premiers' gathering — was held in person.
