Thank you, Roy Miller, for representing LIFT Your Story with Rick Carson, Author of Taming Your Gremlin.
In this episode, we have created a dual partnership between LIFT Your Story and Bleep Bulimia. Why? It seemed seamless in the stories we wanted to share.
I waited for some time to have Rick Carson on my Bleep Bulimia podcast. So excited it came to fruition. So why not share Rick's wisdom with LIFT Your Story?
If you don't know who Rick Carson, Author of Taming Your Gremlin is? GOOGLE IT! Isn't that what our society has come to? PLEASE do and you WILL FIND HIM. Gold nuggets of wisdom.
Truth is, I was a wimp at the start. I sent Rick a note on a Youtube video he had way before I had a podcast with Roy, and Rick responded. It was about his book. He asked me to respond back. I'm sorry. An author that has sold so many copies, responded to my message? YES, I was intimidated. I was scared. I remember someone asking me, and this was 9 years ago when that happened if I responded to his response. I did not. I felt inspired, super excited, and all at the same time intimidated and shy. Those are easy and simple words to use as excuses, yet true. If I had then responded to his response, what would come back?
Fast forward. 2021. We have a date! And that date was delayed, however, this wonderful gentleman calls me.
Do we know the value of a voice seriously over an email or a text message? I admired him all the more. A voice on the phone from Texas.
Fun quick story. That's how Roy and I connect best. Even if I put him to sleep sometimes. LOL
This episode is SPECIAL joining two Podcasts... and so too because it is. Rick's message is for EVERYONE.
Scott Burnside. A high school friend of LaurieAnn, who used to tell her how much he loved to write. It is no surprise he ended up as a reporter starting in Windsor and moving to the Toronto Sun, the Globe and Mail, and then ESPN.
During his time at the Toronto Sun, Scott co-authored a book with Alan Cairns named Deadly Innocence, a book about the Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka murders. Scott and Al worked as a team to cover the story, and they were approached by Warners Books to write a book about it. Scott was also on a documentary on Discovery Plus that has just come out, and he says it was strange to go back 20 years ago. Scott covered the story from 1992 to 1996 and said it's a "strange sensation" to go back and remember.
When asked how it was psychologically to cover a story like that, Scott was very gracious in positioning himself as not being nearly as connected and involved as the victims, families, police, and jury. It changes people.

"Change your language, change your life" says Erwin. Roy and LaurieAnn learned about simple language changes, starting with the word "but". He explains that this diminishes everything that you said before. He suggests using "and". He provides examples of this in our Podcast.
Just a bit more - learn why saying "I'm proud of you" isn't as effective as saying "you should be proud of yourself".
Thank you Erwin!

How we limit ourselves without realizing
Without realizing, everybody is limiting themselves by the frames
they put themselves in. When you want to grow, you have to look
past those frames. First step is become aware of the frames and
Erwin has a very simple 3 steps test to become aware of that. And
he has much more to offer with regards to the mindset.
Change your language, transform your life
For most people, language is just a tool to express themselves. But
language is much more, it can actually change your mindset,
behaviour and even transform your life in a positive way when you
start using different words. Erwin has some great examples how
everybody can change their lives with little tweaks of their language.
