South Dakota native and former University of Sioux Falls head coach Kalen DeBoer hires former Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Ryan Grubb into the same role at Alabama. Grubb coached for DeBoer at USF, Eastern Michigan, Fresno State, and Washington — where the two led the Huskies to the national title game in 2023 with the nation's second-best passing offense out of 132 teams.
Grubb had just been fired by the Seattle Seahawks, who ripped him away from Alabama when DeBoer had hired him to be his original OC just after getting hired in January 2024. In turn, DeBoer demoted his offensive play-caller from this past season, Nick Sheridan. So, what does this all mean? Alabama fans probably won't be happy, but John explains why they should at least be optimistic. But there is another former DeBoer assistant that could really give DeBoer a boost, especially on offense — someone very familiar to football fans in South Dakota.
Next, former All-American USD linebacker Jack Cochrane joins ahead of a third Super Bowl in his first three NFL seasons, all with the Kansas City Chiefs. Hear what it is like to be teammates with Patrick Mahomes, his memory of making a tackle in the Super Bowl his rookie year, and about his early career moments where the undrafted free agent felt like he could hold his own in the NFL. Cochrane also describes his journey at USD that took him from playoff berths in both his freshman (2017) and senior years, and his reaction to his defensive coordinator Travis Johansen taking over the head coaching reigns from the retiring Bob Nielson.
Then, John breaks down the weekend of SDSU and USD in Summit League hoops and what the Jackrabbits road loss at reeling North Dakota means for the Jackrabbits' shot at regular season conference title.
Finally, 2.9-year-old Mitchell boys basketball coach Ryker Kruetzfeldt discusses the Kernels' massive road win on Friday at No. 1 Sioux Falls Lincoln — which was previously undefeated and blowing out almost every opponent — and previews Tuesday's tilt in the Corn Palace against Sioux Falls Jefferson. The Mitchell native explains his experience coaching at the hallowed basketball haunt where he grew up watching and then playing in Kernels games.
KSFL-TV in Sioux Falls and KNBN2-TV in Rapid City will carry the Cavaliers at Mitchell on Tuesday starting at 7 p.m. The game will be streamed at SiouxFallsLive.com as well.
